How will we keep our packs safe? Do we need hammocks? Are we going to be able to sleep in hammocks? Do we need to bring our own water? Can we trust the food preparation? What if the boat breaks down? How are we going to survive 3 days without a shower?" With these questions and more, we set off on our first riverboat trip up the world´s largest rivers. Río Amazonas as it is called in Brazil, is THE largest river in the world by volume, with six times greater total river flow than the next six largest rivers combined, and the largest drainage basin in the world. Because of its vast dimensions it is sometimes called The River Sea. Most sources regard the Amazon as the second longest river in length, second to the Nile, though this is a matter of some dispute. At 9:00am on the morning of the boat´s departure, we rush to find a market to purchase 2 hammocks. After bargaining with 3 or 4 different vendors, we settle on 2 camouflage colored ones, made of light weight, parachute-type material, so that we are able to carry them later in our packs.
