2010 Land Rover LR4

Cars.com's Mike Hanley takes a look at the 2010 Land Rover LR4. It competes with the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz M-Class.

Hi! I’m Mike Hanley with cars.com. Luxury SUV is a favorite with some manufactures but land rover is sticking with this segment it helps create with the new LR4, it’s a successor to land rover LR3 SUV and a packs with some more powerful engine a much more luxurious interior. The principle styling changes that separate the LR4 from the LR3 are all at front. It has this new grill and new headlight design and overall looks that much more similar to the top of the line range rover but when you get around the side of the vehicle you can really see how similar the profile is with the outgoing LR3. In around back there are some modest T light updates but overall the shape is similar to the model replaces. The LR4’s powered by 375 force power V8 engine it makes 75 more power than the old LR3’s engine did. And it’s nice to have when accelerating this vehicle because this is the big SUV. And the engine team with the six feet automatic transmission and combine to economy for this model is 12 miles beyond the city and 17 on the highway now it doesn’t sound that great but it’s actually the same fill economy figures that the old less powerful LR3 achieve. What are the problems with the old LR3 was that its interior didn’t see nice enough be in the luxurious SUV. There are a lot of black plastic buttons in the middle that just didn’t see luxury but land rove is really dress out with the new LR4’s cabin it has this all new center council, center control panel design that is really up scale has a lot nice material on it so I think it’s now position to computer lot better with other models in it’s class. What you also get with the LR4’s cabin is a really high seating position with great views forward and after side windows. For vehicles largest LR4 its backseat is a little disappointing it’s not especially roomy for adult passenger with not much extra regular and not a lot for taller people. Now it could be because they’re trying the bounce regular between the second hour in the optional third row which increases sitting capacity from five people to seven that’s still for a vehicle that expect the backseat to have a little more space. One of the LR43 distinctive styling elements is that it’s tilt gate combination but there are some consequences when it comes to cargo with this design. For one, if you know the tilt gate up you have to clear this wall if you’re going to pull a bag out of it or put one in but when you put the tail gate down it put you about a foot back from the rid of vehicle which means you are going to have to reach further in the gravity luggage so for some types of bags it could present some challenges. Land rove is about always been known for the off road capability but the new LR4 should also be appealing to people are just looking for a luxury SUV because the changes that have been made make it much more luxurious overall and also move it a lot closer to the topper line $80,000 range rover most in terms of its ride comfort and power.
