2011 Scion TC Car Review
Greg Morris: Not too many car makers want to buy or just stick with the product as soon as they get it up to show room floor. Well, not unless they are the Scion division of Toyota, and are desperately trying to capture a piece of the youth turn on market, the brand is launched with those buyers in mind, you know the guy down the street just ask to customize is right. For 2011 that driver gets a TC edition which is basically ready to be tweaked.
Jeremy Neil: Every vehicle is the same as their choices either manual, automatic transmission and you get to chose your color, everything else on the vehicle is an accessory that can be add in and it’s a sport option and you learn to install option or the owner can choose to do it for themselves.
Greg Morris: I don’t like this boxy or brother the XA and XB, the TC is intentionally designed for that slow long look, so go ahead and put it in that high end auto stereo unit. Don’t like 10-inch wheels go for 19 inches instead, you get the idea. Now you may want to alter what’s under the hood but hold tight a minute this one comes with a new two and a half liter inline 4-cylinder engine. It delivers 180 horsepower and 173 foot pounds of torque. The 6-speed transmission is standard for this drive train.
Barely tipping the scales of 3100 pounds with an automatic gear box we found that it handles better than its predecessor with the faster response from the steering. Allegedly a 4-seater, we suggest using the back seat for backpacks stuff like that. Now, inside the other familiar things you expect including the USB port for music devices but Bluetooth phone connectivity is not standard equipment, a feature that appeals to the wide of generation the cars aimed at, did we miss something here?
Oh it wouldn’t be nice to feel the temperature gauge on the dashboard, just saying. The short comings aside we find this Scion TC to be an easy car to drive in daily commuting situations with better than expected side lines. Ironically, the TC which was developed for the North American Market has an appeal it could work in many places on the globe. The question then becomes when it does go international and we play some most exciting offerings that are already out there, this is Greg Morris.
