2XU Debuts $900 Wetsuit for Triathletes

2XU's Director of Sales and Marketing Aiden Clarke talks about the company's newest product for 2010: A $900 wetsuit named "Project X".

2XU Debuts $900 Wetsuit for Triathletes Brad: Hey this Brad Culp with Triathlete Magazine. We’re here at Interbike at the 2XU Booth with Aidan from 2XU. They’ve got a $900.00 wetsuit coming out next year. Aidan why does this wetsuit cost $900.00 and why is it worth $900.00? Aidan: Well it’s a wetsuit where we didn’t build it around the price point. What we did is we want to make no compromises. We wanted to put together these materials we can source and then ultimately the price would be the price. It’s highly flexible. It’s got some incredible technology in it in terms of keeping backflow on the leaks. So when you come out of the water, onto the bike, you’re ready to go. It’s got a huge amount of flexibility in chest so you can nearly reach for the water and this forearm pedals it’s got. These things can grab a little water and if you’re a good swimmer, you can pull yourself a lot faster through the water with it. Brad: Now, athletes have a chance to demo this because if I were to drop $900.00 on a wetsuit, I would just want to try you know, at least for a few minutes before I throw it down the credit card. Aidan: Absolutely, we want to hook you because once you get into it, you’ll be spending a hundred dollars. So it’s one of top retailers around America they’re going to be taking on these suits and some of the demo days around the place, you’ll see some project thick suits out there. Brad: Alright, that’s the 2XU Project X Suit. It’s coming out in 2010; what’s the availability? Aidan: It’s a limited availability. It’s a first thing, first thing we’ve already done a few hundred of them and it’ll be up in January. Brad: Alright so January of next year, I’ll look for it at your local 2XU dealer.
