Air Mouse Pro - iPhone App Review

Who could be so lazy that they can't get up from the couch to use their computer? That would be me. But I found the perfect solution with the help of my iPhone. Welcome to Revision3’s mobile phone application review show App Judgment. I'm Stephanie Chu and today we’re going to look at Air Mouse Pro. This app transforms your iPhone into a wireless remote for your computer. It works from both Mac and PC’s and unlike Apple’s remote you can control any application not just iTunes. Not only does Air Mouse allow you to point and click but you can scroll, use hand motions to move the cursor, type and launch any application that you want. I'm excited about Air Mouse because like many of you I use a spare computer in Media Center that’s hook up to my flat screen TV. My setup is in the bedroom but you can’t go there. So wait here in the Revision3 conference room. I love to control my music, web videos, TV shows and movies from bed which is way too far from my computer and TV. I'm not going to get up every five minutes to change something so I spent a bunch of money on convenience by buying a $60.00 wireless Air Mouse and a $70.00 Apple Bluetooth keyboard. If I’d known about Air Mouse Pro I could have done the same thing for $3.00. Air Mouse Pro is $2.99. You'll also need to download the free server software from MobileAirMouse.com. It’s super easy to set up and uses Wi-Fi to connect to XP, Vista or OS X. The Air Mouse can be controlled in two ways. One you can drag your finger across the screen like a laptop track pad or two you can hold down a finger and wave the device around in the air. Take an advantage of the iPhone built-in accelerometer. The Air Mouse track pad function works great, just as well as a traditional mouse. After a little practice being precise even from across the room was not an issue and on top of that you can type using the iPhone keyboard. I’d like to see better response from the accelerometer. I struggled more than I’d like when trying to get the cursor placement just right. I thought it would have been better after seeing how sensitive the accelerometer can be with apps like eye level and I eventually gave up and return the track pad. The accelerometer was just as good as my expensive wireless mouse which didn’t work that well either. I found that both were inferior to the track pad feature of the Air Mouse Pro. Also if you're on the shared network make sure to turn on the password for your Air Mouse or you might find yourself controlling someone else’s mouse, much like I did to our producer Aileen. She thinks that all our gadgets go hay wire. So I absolutely loved freaking her out. Before I wrap it up let's go over the list of pros and cons. Pros, it’s cheaper than separate devices. It gives you the ability to type. You can control more than just media programs and customize your sensitivity setting. Cons, the accelerometer has a limited response and you must enter a password. So what's my verdict, download Air Mouse Pro for the iPhone. It’s going to save you a ton of money since you can ditch the other devices.
