American Touge 2 - Turbo - RWD

Description

After the success of the first American Touge, we conducted an open casting call for US tuner cars to appear in the sequel AT2 to be tested and driven to the limits touge style by Keiichi "Drift King" Tsuchiya and his sidekick Yasuyuki Kazama. 33 cars divided into 4 different classes were chosen to battle it out to challenge last year's "Touge Monster", Comptech NSX. Hotties Kazumi Kondo and Verena Mei co-host the show. Cars were divided into NA RWD, Turbo RWD, FR and AWD classes.

GT CHANNEL www.gtchannel.com CLASS 2 TURBO-RWD Yasuyaki Kazama: This is a 450 horse power monster; a little scary I wonder how it'll run? Let's see. Male Speaker: First entry in class two is a 450 horse power MR2. Since the MR2 is known to handle overly sensitive Kazama takes it out nice and easy. Yasuyaki Kazama: A 450 horse power mid-ship is a crazy ride. In the high-speed section up there on the course, the car felt like it was going to fly right off the turn. You can only do a full out time attack for one lap. The driver would be too worn out to do more than that. Male Speaker: I have to agree with them I mean I realize that these cars can be -- can be worth to drive mid engine cars especially these car can be worth to drive. Male Speaker: That's why they are fun they don't get boring like other cars are easier to drive. Male Speaker: Exactly, exactly. Male Speaker: So I kept it for over 10 years now. Male Speaker: Although it marked a fast lap time in the five seconds range, the car was found to be wearing sleek tires unfortunately, we had to disqualify the car at that point. Next, step in entry from Las Vegas, Factor X NSX with a bolt on turbo 560 horsepower of the wheels. Yasuyaki Kazama: Too bad the wheel spins around here. If the LSD is working properly, this shouldn't happen. The need for good LSD is very apparent in tight corners. But the engine has good torque right from the bottom. The combination of tire and suspension grip is well-balanced. Even though my specialty is drifting, I find balance of this car very comfortable. Male Speaker: The cars are monster but handles quite well. I give it high points for the suspension setup. Yasuyaki Kazama: Good car! I didn't know that a turbo NSX can be this fast. Because the LSD wasn't working so good, I lost a lot of traction, especially in tight corners. But the overall balance of the suspension and tires are good. I was happy with the brakes with stable pedal pressure throughout the track. That's very important since it makes the driver feel secure. I think this car is a good example of an NSX that could be driven on the touge surprisingly, very fast. Male Speaker: Now that LSD they are saying is week, it's probably true because we drag race the car also. But we are glad he is happy with it and the tires were given to us last week as a sponsorship so we're very happy with it. Thank you. Male Speaker: No ABS Rev limit at 7500rpm. Male Speaker: Okay, no problem. Male Speaker: Our third entry in this class is an FD3 S drift machine. The owner Kevin Wang competes in Formula D. Yasuyaki Kazama: I'm having problem with 3rd gear. The toe angle of the front tires seems way too much outward. That's causing the bad steering response. If it didn't have this problem with the toe angle, I would rate it higher. Other than that, the engine suspension and tires are well balanced. Weight transfer by brake control was very easy. If the steering center was more precise, I think this car would handle better and faster on the tracks. The lack of steering response was quite unfortunate. Male Speaker: Yes, I'm very happy with Kazama's evaluation of the vehicle. The car we have only have minimum testing we got two days in with a car buyers so we still setting the suspension on it. I had it told out so that thinking of course have it really experience the course before they can, you know, tighter, section with the sharper tires with one and one rotation, but I felt that as well when I was doing my testing so we didn't get any chance to tight it up, but very happy with the way that everything turned out so I feel very well. Male Speaker: The toe angle was adjusted outward on purpose. Yasuyaki Kazama: On purpose? That's crazy! It's too dangerous! Adjust the toe angle to zero. Male Speaker: Zero toe okay. Yasuyaki Kazama: I'm told I could rev this turbo engine up to 9000rpm. Male Speaker: Spugen S2000 equipped with turbo charger acceleration should be phenomenal. Yasuyaki Kazama: The tires should be warmed up by now. Let's go for the time attack! I'm allowed to rev up to 9000rpm, but I think this car runs faster if I shift up earlier. The rear suspension moves around a bit. The rear brakes work too much as it warms up and the suspension was too soft, which was why I couldn't floor it. The car is fine if you're just cruising. But when you carry speed into a corner, it suddenly turns wild. The engine felt good. The turbo overlapped the original torque band of the VTEC, so you're getting more power throughout the torque band. Male Speaker: Glad he drove the car either way so it's fun to know how the car came out. I knew that I don't have the ABS need up I don't have a ABS in but I didn't expected to be too hard or too soft so suspension I had to tune before I came so. Do my best so whatever we could do. Yasuyaki Kazama: Being an S14 owner myself, I had my eye on this S14 Kouki. I'm told the car has an SR turbo engine so I'm looking forward to it. I'll try to bring out the best for all you fellow Silvia owners out there. Male Speaker: Good driving, the specialty of Jim Garner, good driving auto crossing, don't want to do a whole lot of drifting with this. Such a good the popular opinion with this S14 United States is the best car in the world. You know we tried not only it is very popular car actually really good and that's kind of my initiative so show what the car really capable of and as far here the tuning checks see how it sax up. Male Speaker: Our fifth entry is an S14 Silvia with an SR20 turbo engine swap. Yasuyaki Kazama: Man, I love Silvias! The suspension and the tires are well balanced, but the engine feels a bit weak. If the car had more power, it'll do well in a touge battle. The mods on this car were done in all the right places, and not over done. This car's setup is perfect to practice for a novice driver with a SR-powered Silvia. It's easy to drive and probably easy to maintain, so the driver can just focus on driving. Male Speaker: The engine is very simple and very almost stock, so it looks only comments you need so I spend most of my time working with valves, between suspension and the tires trying to find the right tires to match dripped suspension providing so I am happy with it. Male Speaker: Is this the hand brake? Male Speaker: Yes, that's the hand brake. Yasuyaki Kazama: Okay. I'll try to drift then. Male Speaker: Next up is an AE86 turbo from Danstoy. They apparently filled up the tank with premium gas in the way here and now the engine won't rev up properly. Yasuyaki Kazama: Since the car is equipped with front calipers from a Skyline, the front breaks are too strong. I have to keep giving it gas or the engine doesn't rev up smoothly. The fuel injection quantity at mid-range is probably not properly managed. Male Speaker: The car won't go sideways. Yeah, it doesn't seem to drift. Yasuyaki Kazama: It was a tough ride. When I started off, the steering center was right here, but it changed as I went around the track. Maybe there's a worn out bushing on the steering rack? Also, when the water temperature rose, it becomes harder to rev up. So I was only able to run it full throttle for a lap. With a bolt-on turbo, you always have to think about cooling. A good car should be stable and capable of running for a fairly long time. That's the basics of building a car. Male Speaker: Our next entry with another Bolt on turbo the Vivid Racing RX-8. Yasuyaki Kazama: This engine feels good. If I had an RX-8, I would turn my engine like this one. This course has lots of ups and downs, but the car feels great. I don't feel any need for more power. This car feels like it has more than 280 horse power. The car turns and runs well, a real pleasant drive. The car may not be super fast around the track, but it sure feels good driving it. It's stable, even on these tight turns. The handling is very mild. Male Speaker: Kazama gives two thumbs up for the RX-8. Yasuyaki Kazama: It's a fun car, very very fun to drive. This car will satisfy a wide range of people, from the beginner, to advanced drivers. It's stable when you drive at normal speeds. Even when you increase velocity and jump into a corner a little too fast, the car holds firm and takes the turn. It feels like you're constantly in control. Even when the car drifts, the car will send a signal to the driver well before it begins to slide. You can really relax when driving this car. The engine power is sufficient, suspension and tire setup are good, too. It's a well balanced vehicle. Male Speaker: You know it's actually surprise me a lot you know where actually really worried with the tuning of the car how we last minute set suspension so really happy that you know extremely satisfied the way it performed and you know this car is out of the box definitely a little bit slower, but you know with the added horsepower and turbo kit balanced suspensions big brakes you know I think it makes definitely competitive so battle so we're extremely happy with the way you know we made it our car. Male Speaker: The last entrant in this class is a turbo charged MR3 Spyder. The owner Mike seems to be happy to see his car being driven by D1 driver, so as his girl friend. How was the ride Kazama. Yasuyaki Kazama: How should I put it? The car is not slow at all it actually delivers a high level of driving. But the car is still extremely easy to drive. Overall, it's a fun ride. Mike Ngo: I was glad back in one piece but I enjoyed it. Female speakers: Interim Report! Keiichi Tsuchiya: I just finished driving all the cars in Class 1. Unfortunately, every car was rated lower than 90. How was the Class 2? Yasuyaki Kazama: Yes, I drove the cars in Class 2. There were a few cars that were too scary, but I did see some good cars that drove good, stopped good, and turned good. I gave out high scores to those cars. Keiichi Tsuchiya: There were some cars that I drove that were pretty good, but I really wouldn't call them turned cars. Male Speaker: It looks like you are completely satisfied with the car so far let's see what's next. Keiichi Tsuchiya: What next? What next time?
