Apricorn Drive Wire - Tech Review

Mike: Well just recently, I know you had a major hard drive crash. Getting that information of the is kind of pain especially when it’s actually embedded inside the notebook. AJ: Yeah, embedded in the notebook or even inside to your computer, I mean hard guys can be intimidating in the first part but than one crashes in nightmare. Mike: Well for a lot of computer techie guys what they do is they actually will use software and they put cables and then hard drives to clone to the old hard drive onto a new one but to make it even easier come to call apricorn has what they call their drive wire. This little box here that’s kind of crazy but ill tell because I own a business I'm going to go out and get one of this right away because it allows you to hook up externally hard drives. Everything from the zone notebooks drives to the larger ID desktop drives. Even zeta drives now as well, which is kind of the new standard for hard drives. AJ: And when you look at this, this is an external drive. A lot of people bait. Now they never seen this before. This is the drive that actually goes inside to your computer or inside an enclosure for an external drive. You can see this got all the circuity boards and everything on the bottom of it and obviously, this is not stand-alone but just as Mike said the idea behind this is that if you are going to upgrade your new computer with the hard drive. You need to get the information on that drive in terms of all the drivers and all the software programs and everything like that so you just simply just clone that information onto this one. Once that is on there, you simply just take apart your laptop sticks this one in. it boots up presto gazinga, works fabulous. Mike: Hey, that’s my line presto gazinga. So here, we have got a zeta drive here. I would just show you how it would be hook up here. You plug into the adaptor on the side just make sure that you match up the holes. I have it connected here comes with the USB cable and on this side I've got a USB cable receptacle and then I plug in into the side of the notebook computer. Typically, there is also a power adaptor that you do want to plug into this as well. You love the software that comes with it like you were saying. The cloning software it is called EZ gig II and it will step you through. Everything you need to do to get all of the programs, files and settings of your old hard drive onto this new hard drive and you do not have to be rocket scientist to figure this out. It is actually pretty intuitive as far as the menu system here. And like you said once that done you basically unplug this here turn the computer off whether it is a notebook, a desktop. Take the old hard drive out and put the new one in and you are good to go. AJ: And I give you one quick little one and if you’re going with the old style IDE drives one thing we notices is when you plug in it does block the power adaptor. So what you have to do is probably use a ribbon between the two but still works great. Mike: It is called the drive wire from Apricorn and if you do have a business and you would regularly upgrade the drives or one of the like I say that makes sure that you have the kit going into a differently information off one that are failing. It’s a good little unit.
