The clothing line aviator is taking off in a big way, and getting the attention of quite a few celebs. We met up with the founders, two former models who wanted to bring their east coast preppy style to the west.

Aviator Clothing for Men Better Audra: The men’s clothing line Aviator is taking a hump in a big way and getting the attention of quite a few celebs. We met up with the line’s founders two former models who wanted to bring their East Coast preppy style to L.A. When former Ralph Lauren models Matt King and Colby Kane moves to L.A. from New York, they say they couldn’t find a single thing to wear. Colby: When we got out here and everything was so— we’ll just use the term you know tacky you know which everything was really graphic out and the truck or hats you know that whole boondocks thing whatever you want to call that. Audra: So they decided to make their own clothes instead creating a new line called Aviator. Matt: It is inspired by Vintage Americana meets preppy with modern details and a modern aesthetic. Audra: So they set up shop her in a Laurel Canyon home once lived in by rock legend Jim Morrison himself. Matt: I don’t know if his vibe is still here. He’s artistic vibe but it definitely lends itself to us to be creative so we do feel like we come up with our best collections when we’re sitting right here in our show room. Audra: Well starting a clothing line is never easy. Matt and Colby say their background in fashion has given them a real edge when it comes to marketing the line. Colby: On a lot of occasions like if we’re talking a certain stores that I think they like to know that we’ve been on both sides of the fence. Audra: And they don’t have to look too hard to find some models. Matt: Because I was an Art Director, I do take most the photos for the website and for our marketing campaign. Any kind of line sheets and stuff and Matt is actually a prefect large. Anyone who would go to our website and he’s pretty much the face in there and then the other models on the website are also our friends. Colby: Yeah. Matt: So that comes as very convenient. Audra: The line includes an interesting mix of chambray shirts and khakis, salvaged denim and iconic tees. Matt: We’re going to try and get Dustin Hoffman to buy this one, the Graduate. How appropriate. Keeping the tradition in what made clothes so great back in the 50’s and the 60’s and trying just to incorporate modern twist and details. Audra: And the guys’ say their dedicated to using high quality materials and having everything made right here in America. Matt: I think it’s super important to you know make things organic if you can and then make things local always, you know especially for what we’re trying to do is a very Americana brand so why have Americana brand was made elsewhere and we don’t use anything synthetic. All the shirts for instance are mon— buttons and everything is 100% cotton and organic when we can and we try to do things the right way. Audra: And celebrities have been paying attention to from Josh Holloway to David Boreanaz. Matt: Dustin Hoffman, he wears the stuff, we’re a huge fan of his work but Anthony LaPaglia wears the stuff. Chris Backus, Leonardo DiCaprio has some stuff. Brad Pitt has some stuff. Audra: But they stress they want the clothing to be wearable by the everyday man as well as the celeb. Matt: Our product definitely carries a wide range of audience which is great because we don’t want to just, we don’t want— every guy is not going to be as blessed as 6”3’ and 180. Audra: And they love when they see people out and about wearing the fruits of their labor. Matt: It’s the ultimate compliment for a designer I think is to see somebody wearing your stuff. Audra: Hot, hot, hot that’s all I have to say and I’m talking about the clothes of course.
