Jessica: This is Jessica Williamson, and you’re watching Zap Root. Bottled water, so convenient, and so damn evil, I already have a water bottle, so stop trying to slip it into my hand when I don’t notice. Damn you and your slippery convenience. You’re not even cleaner than tap water these days. And now that Americans are just figuring out, great considerations aside that bottled water is, expensive and pointless. The growth in the US bottled water market is finally slowing in the last few months. Turns out Greenland plans to tap glaciers for water and sell it to you for a premium price. Greenland soon began bottling 3,000 to 10,000 year old water that would drill a lot of icebergs. Don’t worry; the Greenland government assures everyone that it’s sustainable. No really, they swear, and we got to stop pretentious enough for you, check out the link, to this next in list of designer water, Bling H2O, which is 20 dollars a bottle, to Phillips Stuff Glacier, which is 268 dollars a bottle. And just think Tikking Pikins hasn’t even started to sell his yet. Gather all the kids around, because the Corn Refiners Association is out to convince you that high fructose corn syrup is just fine. Female1: You don’t care what the kids eat huh. Female2: Excuse me. Female1: That has high fructose corn syrup in it. Female2: And? Female1: You know what they say about it. Female2: Like what? Female1: Let me— Jessica: Lady, let us help you out. Perefuse studies have indicated that large amount of high fructose corn syrup can induce insulin resistance, and late Saturdays. Maybe you’re saying that’s not me, that’s just people that eat a ton of the stuff. But consider that 9% of the average American caloric intake is from high fructose corn syrup, that’s 63 pounds of stuff per year for every man, woman and child. Yeah, come on it’s fine in moderation, it’s not like food producers put the stuff in everything. So check out this chart, the green line is corn syrup consumptions since 1966, and then checkout this chart, the red line is obesity rates for the past 40 years. Hmm, no, yeah no, we definitely can’t draw any conclusion from these. So head up to sweetsurprise.com and hear the many ways high fructose corn syrup can improve your life. But only in moderation of course. For Chico bags are back, and this time, they’re badder than ever. So go to our community site, sign up, and send us a message, saying you want a for Chico bag. People will be selected at random each week, free stuff can’t get much easier than that. What do Seeds of Change, Annie’s Homegrown, Naked Juice, Morning Star Farms, Garden of Eden, Back to Nature, and Earth’s Best all have in common? Besides being certified organic, they’re all owned by huge multinational corporate entities. Could you resist having your home grown in every home? It’s the American dream, right? Kraft, Pepsi, Heinz, and General Mills are all putting some serious effort into acquiring organic brands. Bill Howard, an assistant professor at Michigan State University Department of Community, Agriculture Recreation and Resource Studies created this spacey looking animation to show how green companies are being swallowed up. Good magazines has made it a little prettier, but even with better font, it’s still scary. Thanks for watching and come indulge your sweet tooth at ZapRoot.com
