Canpages Mobile App Overview

Mike Agerbo talks to Canpages CEO Olivier Vincent about what the Canpages App for the iPhone and BlackBerry can do, how to use it, and how to get it.

Mike Agerbo: Now with the advent of smart phones we can do so much more than just make phone calls, these are basically small computers in the palm of our hands. To understand how we can use mobile search more effectively we've got Olivier Vincent from Canpages thanks for coming on the show. Olivier Vincent: Thank you Mike. Mike Agerbo: So you guys actually have a Canpages app now available for iPhone and BlackBerry how does it work? Olivier Vincent: Definitely we, and first of all we give local search on a mobile environment is great and we are going to see more and more people using a mobile device to make a local search as opposed to necessarily computer. So we are putting a lot of effort in it and hence we do have an iPhone app and a BlackBerry app where you have access to the whole national database but also a lot of data all the local components we like at the Canpages like the videos and the photos and but its also voice power, so instead of having to type a long text like French restaurant with a patio, in tone or you just say it and it makes you then a lot of time very efficient. Mike Agerbo: Well that says a lot of time on the iPhone for example because using the touch screen keyboard I mean its efficient but using your voice is so much faster. Olivier Vincent: It's always faster than with the words, no doubt. Mike Agerbo: Well how does it work let's get -- Oliver Vincent: Well let me give you an example so you just download your Canpages up go to it and you've got a speed button up here, so I'm just going to say Italian restaurant in Kitsilano Vancouver and once you're done its analyzing what you said, Bing I've got the answer. Mike Agerbo: It's just a second. Oliver Vincent: So I've got my Italian restaurant in Kitsilano, they have got all the listings showing up and I kind of bring them up on a map, so I have got an idea of whether they are, it's showing the mapping as I speak and then once you've selected the one you want you just press on the button to call them and off you go, we are making a booking for tonight. Mike Agerbo: Well thanks you that you can actually get the directions as well. Oliver Vincent: Yes, direction and mapping very useful. You want to go, you won't be able to search that. Mike Agerbo: How simple is it to get the app on to the iPhone? Oliver Vincent: It's very, its very easy. You just go to the app store and type Canpages and its going to show up. Same thing on the BlackBerry, if you are going to go through the BlackBerry app store and one of the app stores, now you can also send text messaging BlackBerry to the Canpages shop code 898411. Mike Agerbo: And it works the same way on the BlackBerry as well. Oliver Vincent: It works the same way and it also has the geo location, again very, very fast and its mobile, its got geo location, it's your geo of where. Mike Agerbo: Well that's nice because you do have that GPS built into these phones now, so you don't even have to tell them where you are just you know -- The search function here as well, I see down on the bottom there is some additional features as well, not only businesses but you can search people. Oliver Vincent: Don't worry yeah we keep adding new functionalities so we can search people or you can make a reverse search, you just got the number, you want to find who that number belongs to and then we launched in the latest version something I find very, very useful which is all the traffic all over the country, reference leading Canpages and you get a live access to the picture east or the west they can, two minutes, two minutes ago in U.S. on the Highway one, extremely useful when you are on the go. Mike Agerbo: Oh sure, I have known about this, because actually I paid $10 for an app that has the webcam so now you have it for free. Oliver Vincent: Well that its free engine. Mike Agerbo: All of these features across the country, can you look at stuff and try it for example. Oliver Vincent: Yes, I can quickly make a search bike store and in Yorkville, Toronto. So just again access to the national database, geo location when I am on the go, I've got my bike stores in Yorkville, Toronto available. I can look at them on a map or call them directly. Mike Agerbo: So easy. Oliver Vincent: Very easy, that's the idea. Mike Agerbo: And where can people find out more information.
