Transcript
Host: How can you count carbohydrates? Kathy Reily: There is a couple of different ways that you can count carbohydrates. One of the easiest ways is to get the food that you are ready to eat, the package, the box, the envelope, but check the food label on the particular food and on the food label, it will tell you how many grams of carbohydrate are in a serving of that particular food. So if you are having cereals for breakfast you would look at the serving size and down below in the middle part of the label, it will tell you how many grams of total carbohydrate are in that serving size. So if it were cereal in the morning, say for instance, if the serving size said it one cup, down below, it might say total carbohydrate 26 gms. If you actually poured out, measured one cup of the cereal you would be eating 26 gms of carbohydrate from that food. If you decided to eat two cups of the cereal you would then double the amount of carbohydrate because you doubled the portion. So for two cups of cereal you would be eating 52 gms of carbohydrate for that particular serving.
