Host: What are the symptoms of cardiac arrest? Robert O'Connor: Well the symptoms usually what's perceived by the patient and when a person has cardiac arrest, survives afterwards usually have no recall of the events that lead up to it. So the symptoms are usually notable in their absence. Now there are other illnesses that may lead up to cardiac arrest. For example, someone may have chest pain from a myocardial infarction and then suffer cardiac arrest, but when someone loses consciousness that usually herald to the onset of cardiac arrest. So the signs to a bystander would be someone suddenly collapses. In fact, if anyone ever collapses the assumption is that they are in cardiac arrest and you should begin assessment and treatment immediately.
