Who should I talk to and what should I ask? Talk to anybody who’s in the field and just start asking people. I’m interested in this field do you know anybody? Do you know anybody who might know somebody? You can identify the most on the internet and their websites. You can identify them from articles that they’ve written. You can identify them at job fairs, people who are coming to job fairs. So anybody that you can find who has something to do with the field that you’re interested in is a viable subject for an information interview. And then when you sit down to talk to them, ask them all the things that you’d really like to know about the career starting with how did they get in to the industry? And what do they think the key skills are? And particularly ask them what they like least and most about what they do. If in this question is one that helps you most determine, well is that something that I would enjoy about this career? Or is that something that would really turn me off without this career? So those are the types of questions you can ask in an information interview.
