Cherie Currie Audra Lowe: The music and new rock and roll biopic tells a story of the breakthrough all-female band the Runaways. But did the film do the band justice? Rhiannon has more with the Runaways real lead singer, Cherie Curry for the inside scoop. Rhiannon Ally: Cherie Curry is watching her life flash before her eyes. Thanks to the new movie, the Runaways. Cherie Curry: You know it was just a relief to finally see the Runaways get the recognition that we so much deserved 35 years later. And then you’ve got Kristen Stewart. You’ve got Dakota Fanning up there, just rock in it. And – I mean it’s just a dream come true for me. Rhiannon Ally: The Dakota Fanning plays Curry opposite Kristen Stewart’s Joan Jett, in the story of the all-girl punk band. Cherie Curry: When Joan and I watched them shoot to Japan, the live in Japan scene, we both wept, because it was like for the first time we got a chance to be in the audience watching the Runaways. I mean is that realistic? I just can’t still believe it. Rhiannon Ally: Curry, now 50, spends some time on the set to help Dakota capture the character. Cherie Curry: Well Dakota just wanted to know how I felt during that period of time or during a scene. And there was a couple of times where she was playing it a little bit differently than it actually happened and it was really neat to be able to around—Dakota was devastated at that time whenever she would just turn it around. And it was great to be there for her, and she’s such a pro. Rhiannon Ally: Curry’s book, Neon Angel, helps get the movie off the ground and reunited her with Joan Jett in the studio to rerecord some of their biggest hits. Cherie Curry: Going in a studio with Joan was literally like 35 years just melting away. I mean we just hit every mark. We sound great together. She was so excited and I was so excite that we think we just might have to do this again. Rhiannon Ally: For Better, I’m Rhiannon.
