Dr. Rochelson: It is very important. This is extremely important. Rubella is not that much, Rubella is the same as German Measles. It is really not that much of a problem anymore because you hardly ever see German Measles in this country and essentially if everybody else is vaccinated which essentially they are. It is hard to get rubella but it is really easy to get chicken pox. Chicken pox is Varicella. It is really important that women before they get married or before they start having babies, if they have not had chicken pox that they get immunized to Varicella because Varicella or Chicken Pox is potentially a catastrophic event for the fetus. It is as one of the doctors mentioned before, you should get a flu shot, a pregnant woman as well could get a flu shot and they are encouraged to do so.
