Cradlepoint MBR1000 Router - Tech Review

I was looking for ways to be more productive with my business, one of those things has been wireless internet access. Pretty well everyone I work with now has a notebook or a laptop computer. Well, to create that wireless internet, you have to create a hot spot and you do that with a wireless router. We’re going to have a look at one from Cradlepoint, it’s called their MBR1000, but this one is a little bit different and I’ll show you that in a second. It does support wireless B, G and draft end so you do get that wireless high speed and the distance as well so you got a good coverage area. And you can see on the back, I’ve got the traditional ports. Right now, I’ve got it tight wired into my cable modem so I can share that internet access. We also have four digital LAN ports here so I can hard wire in desktop and the notebook computers if I want to. But this one also has the ability to support air cards and that’s a really handy thing. And for those who don’t know, air cards are these devices you can get from your cell carrier that allow you to plug them into your notebook or laptop computer. And along with the data plan that you get, you’d be able to get wireless internet access no matter where you are. You don’t have to look for hot spots. Pretty well, anywhere there is cell reception, these things will work. Well now, you have the ability to plug them into the side of this router. This is an Express Card version. There is also the USB versions as well and it’s pretty simple to hook up. Just stick it in this slot here and again if you’re using a USB version and these are becoming quite popular now. You can plug that into the USB port and what that allows me to do is have redundancy if my regular cable internet access ever goes down for whatever reason and that does happen sometimes here on our studio. It ill actually then go to the back up, the 3G air card here. The USB version or the Express Card depending on which one I have. Now, my internet access is always up and going no matter what’s happening. And then you can even think of some other capabilities as well. I can even take this thing with me on the road if I needed to setup a remote office maybe on a construction site or at a building that doesn’t have the hardwired internet access. I can create my own internet access and that wireless capability by simply setting this up, plugging it into the wall outlet and sticking in the air card. And even think about trade shows. If you’ve ever had to setup a trade show booth, you’d probably look into the internet access and they always charge you an arm and a leg. Well now, you can simply setup your own internet access and of course you can password protect it. It’s got all the regular encryption modes. Things like WAP, WPA, and WPA2 and it even supports VPN as well. So, you get really high security connections. It’s called the MBR1000. It’s from Cradlepoint and it’s a great way to give you that redundancy for interne access in your office or even setup remote offices as well.
