David Usher Talks Social Media

We speak with David Usher about connecting with fans, and whether social media benefits established artists or newcomers more.

Stephanie Ng Wan: Hi, my name is Stephanie and welcome to watchmojo.com. Today, we’re speaking to musician David Usher about his current endeavors in the social media. So I know that you also have a blog on our technology and the communications revolution, it's called cloudid.com and I was wondering what does communication revolution mean to you. David Usher: I'm very in to new media, social media and the way that the technology has changed, the way they communicate, interact, and it's very much new from a push it down your throat society to us all being little media engines. They get to choose and also remix and send out content in anyway we want. I really embrace the new roles of social media, because I'm interested in all tools and I'm interested in a way the communication is changing, us as an individuals and it's ours. Stephanie Ng Wan: I mean just talking about the social media in general, is it something that established artists can benefit more or even people who are just emerging? David Usher: It definitely worked for stylish artists, but for artist that are just starting out, I don’t think there choice anymore, whether you can be involve with social media or not, it's like saying do you want to be involved with the telephone? You kind of need the telephone. And it's the same with social you need to be on all these channels, for you to get your message out. Larger companies that might be helping on the future are not really going to look at you unless you have certain things. You know everyone is looking for individuals that have done with themselves and built there on falling. Stephanie Ng Wan: You released a DVD called Walk Don’t Run a couple of years ago, which is about the process of the album, God Had Curves, did you have any sort of reservations, because it's very personal, you know bringing people into your life like that? David Usher: No I don’t have reservations about it. I mean at the time I made it I was really into making and it was part of the process of making the record, was making this documentation of that whole journey. The idea of being an artist is to make things in all sort of different genres and just be continually working on creative things.
