Transcript
Julianne: My name is Julianne and I am from Lansing, Michigan. One of my elderly aunt has dementia and we do not want this to turn into Alzheimer's disease. Would improving her diet or having her do crossword puzzles or may be start exercising more, could any of these things help her get her short-term memory back? Gary Small: Julianne, a healthy lifestyle is great for people who are at risk for dementia and even people who are already suffering. If we can keep the brain as healthy as possible, the chances are it will slow down the disease's progression to some extent. So I recommend regular everyday exercise, mental stimulation that is not too taxing but interesting and trying to reduce stress in the patient's life.
