Development Support in Lebanon Elizabeth Kiem: You're watching UNICEF Television. Two years after armed conflict shattered these villages in South Lebanon efforts to build back better have begun to pay off. UNICEF Regional Director Sigrid Kaag on mission to Lebanon, visited communities in the South with the aim of better allocating resources to improve the lives of children. Sigrid Kaag: So I'm very encouraged but I’m also very cognizant of the fact we need to do more. We need to make sure this is sustainable from reconstruction to better learning, from community centers. Elizabeth Kiem: From this community center in Bint Jbeil to this rehabilitated water supply Ms. Kaag saw areas for cooperation between UNICEF and the government of Lebanon. Sigrid Kaag: The sector of protection it’s an equal question, when it ranges from the basic protection needs of children to the system of juvenile justice. Elizabeth Kiem: After touring the South, Ms. Kaag met with high-level officials with President Michel Sulieman and Ministers of Culture and Interior. The Prime Minister of the country announced to commitment to work with UNICEF on a new national survey that will allow development agencies to better serve different communities. Sigrid Kaag: We will stand by you as you see fit as we articulate all country program development to articulate the priorities very much based on data as it also helps to identify how to best allocate the resources. Elizabeth Kiem: And Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey will collect information from 16,000 households nationwide. This is Elizabeth Kiem reporting for UNICEF Television, Unite for Children.
