Transcript
Hi, I am Janet Hubert and actually you know me probably from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, but at the age of 46 I found out that I have osteoporosis. It was a shock to say the least. When my doctor told me I had osteoporosis, first of all he called me and he said, “Janet!” He said, “I said to them ‘redo this test; this can’t be right.’” He said because I was doing a mammogram so I threw in a bone density just for the heck of it because you know, too for, and he called me and he said, “I have got your test back and you have osteoporosis.” He said, “I said to them this cannot be right. She is healthy. She is African-American. She does not fit the criteria.” So he was actually more shocked even than I was. So it was profound, to say the least, because I didn’t fit any of the categories or any of the criteria and I was in nowhere, you know, I was 46 and black and they always say we don’t get it. But the problem is that by the time they diagnosed African-American with having osteoporosis, it’s too late. I had a minus-3 fracture risk, which is very, very bad, very acute.
