Dick Van Dyke Marries 40-Year-Old Makeup Artist

The 86-year-old actor swapped vows with his 40-year-old makeup artist, Arlene Silver, raising some eyebrows.

DICK VAN DYKE: “We’re engaged, gonna be married.” ARLENE SILVER: “I mean, he’s the most incredible prince of a man. Very lucky.” ASHLAN GORSE: “E! has learned the happy deed is done. The 86-year-old ‘Diagnosis Murder’ star said ‘I do’ to 40-year-old Arlene Silver.” Van Dyke claims he’s “not a loner” and needs “to have a life partner,” which he thinks he’s found in Silver. As The Washington Post reports , he’s kind of a serial monogamist. “The first time around, he wed Margie Willett in 1948 during a live broadcast of the radio show ‘Bride and Groom.’ The couple was married for 36 years and had four children together before divorcing … The ‘Mary Poppins’ star also lived with actress and romantic partner Michelle Triola for more than 30 years until she died in 2009 of lung cancer.” Rumor Fix got an exclusive interview with the Hollywood legend , who explains the love story. DICK VAN DYKE: “Kind of spur of the moment. We decided leap day would be the best time to do it … (FLASH) We met at a SAG awards, oh, about six years ago and, uh, she became my make-up artist and, ultimately, worked her way up to wife.” Silver was born eight years after Van Dyke hit the big screen in “Mary Poppins,” and six years after “The Dick Van Dyke Show” went off the air. That age difference is making some media more than a little skeptical. “He is 86, and she is, uh, well … we’ll tell you straight ahead.” ( WOAI ) “A 46-year discrepancy.” ( KSWB ) ANCHOR 1: “Thirty years, no marriage — and now you get married?” ANCHOR 2: “To a girl you’ve known for six years?” ANCHOR 3: “Wow. Never give up on love, folks.”  ( Access Hollywood ) But a writer for Metro says — come on, if they say they’re in love, then they’re in love. “Dick's complexion certainly looks peachy in the [RumorFix] clip, which is probably a mixture of his wife's skills with a foundation brush and the gooey feeling that comes from being a newly wed. True to form, Dick is seen laughing and smiling throughout - one of the reasons why Arlene says she fell in love with him.”
