Person 1: What is it that you know about trouble dogs that most dog owners do not know? Person 2: One thing is, I treat dogs like a dog. I use dog psychology instead of using human psychology on a dog in order for me to rehabilitate and find the balanced state of mind that they need. Person 3: Dog whispering involves an animal’s body language to gain its respect. Hi I’m Rebecca Brayton, and welcome to www.watchmojo.com. And today we’re speaking with Joe Rosen about this dog training technique. What is dog whispering? Person 4: The art of getting a dog to respond and respect you and react the way you want it to in order to keep it out of harms’ way. “Who’s that?! Yeah! Tell me who’s that?!” “Ooh, he’s a good boy.” Person 3: And what is it relation to dog training? Person 4: It teaches the dog that it’s got to respond to the person giving the command, namely the owner, because it’s in the dog’s best interest. Not to run into the streets, not to get into a fight with another dog, not to chase another animal – the same thing more in detail, more in depth. It is a talent. Person 3: I read that dog whispering involves reading the dog’s body language. Person 4: It’s very important with those body language you can tell what the dog is about to do. I like to think for the dog so I can prevent a lot of trouble. Person 3: And how do you go about reading your dog’s body language? Person 4: Experience over the years. I mean you get a puppy. You see that it gets up and starts to move around. That’s a sign that it’s going to be going to the bathroom. The ears are up, the dog is alert. The ears are back, the dog is more relaxed. The mouth remaining open, again the dog is relaxed. The mouth being closed, we don’t know how it’s going to react. Person 3: Can anyone do this or is it best left to professionals? Person 4: As usually, professionals that are working with them for so many, many years but some people just have that knack. And I mean, if the dog really loves the owner, then the owner is going to be its dog whisperer. Person 3: What benefits does dog whispering have over traditional command-style training? Person 4: No particular benefit, it’s just that once you have dog under your control, the dog stays safe and you’re not going to be frustrated with it.
