Duff Scary Cakes

Duff reminisces about some of Charm City's scariest Halloween confections.

Duff Goldman: Hello there. It is Halloween. Over here at Charm City Cakes, we make some really creepy cakes. We’ve made a lot, really scaring ones over the years. So I want to show you some of my favorite couple of cakes. As far as Halloween cakes go, that exorcist cake goes probably my favorite. That thing was so disgusting, so creepy; so vile and Elena is the queen of the dead. She did such an awesome job on it. But then you go one step further then you put a motor and then you plug it, the head start spinning around, it is just that much creepier. Ready? Elena: Just try it. Duff Goldman: That is so gross. Elena: You—you. Geof: I think most people they didn’t see it, they were afraid. Male: Oh my God. Duff Goldman: Trick or treat? Male: Its amazing! Female: I love the fact that Tony was dressed up in like full priest regalia receiving these exorcism cake from this crazy baker. Duff Goldman: Just can’t get out of my car. I am freaking out. Jason got a cake of his own head being eaten by zombies. Geof: Elena carves a full head and then cracked it to make it look like a broken skull. Elena: Yeah, I know how he got—how we get himself into this situation you know and it seems like it kind of sucks. Duff Goldman: It was great because it was so disgusting. Everybody in the bakery was kind of transfixed by the process that Elena was going through. It was fantastic. Female: That is so disgusting. Female: That is hands down, the grossest thing I have ever seen. Duff Goldman: This one is pretty different because this was a very creepy Halloween inspired wedding cake. They wanted this creepy hunted chapel. They wanted themselves as zombies. They are all bloody and gross of stuffed meat, rotten fallen off their faces and stuff. It’s gross and creepy and scary and it’s covered in cats. Really, really, really important to get all those details just right so the effect is boom! Yes, I get this, creepy, welcome to the rest of your life. Katherine’s favorite, favorite cartoon is the—it’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie brown and Katherine got to make a scene from the cartoon. Katherine: My personal favorite idea of my own was the little candy handy in the box, smart. Duff Goldman: What I really like about this cake is that it really captured the Charlie spirit. It was done in the style that the cartoons were done it. The characters were done really, really well. All the characters looked exactly like they did in the cartoon. She did it really well and I think it’s because of her love for the cartoons so— But it was kind of a creepy dude who lived here in Baltimore. Anna: His eyes look a little—are they really intense and really like come at you and really scary. Duff Goldman: Ana made this cake and it was absolutely fantastic. This is one picture of how she had painted that—you just see it on his eyes. His eyes are looking at you and it’s really, really kind of creepy, it sort of follows you around the room.
