Carol: I'm Carol. I'm 52 from Auburn, Alabama, and I'd like to know what kind of exercises I can do to help with lower back pain? Ryan Andrews: Carol, one of the key things with lower back pain is glute strength. Your glutes are your big hip muscles. You want to make sure those are strong and active overtime, because usually what can happen is people underutilize their glute muscles and become dominant on their quad muscles. That's going to result in a lot of lower back pain. So, you can do things like glute bridges, sumo style squats, deadlifts, and believe it or not, even walking up a hill can activate those glutes and keep them strong and active overtime and protect your lower back.
