Exploring Rhododendron

Rhododendron are available in many different colors and look especially great in woodland settings. Dave shows you some magnificent rhododendron in his own garden.

Growing Wisdom with David Epstein Hi! I’m Dave Epstein this is Growing Wisdom and you know Rhododendrons are just a great plant and the purpose of this video is just really to show off some of them. It’s been a remarkable year across many parts of the country for Rhododendron. The winter was just kind enough to them that they are showing just some amazing beauty. So whether you’ve got white or purple or this fuchsia, they really are gorgeous. Rhododendron blossoms don’t last that long but when they are in full bloom, definitely something to have. They tend to like dappled sunlight. They’ll take full sun and they’ll take full shade. But I find that they like a little bit of morning sun and then some afternoon shade and they really do quite well. Some of them get pretty big so don’t put them too close to your house because they’ll start blocking windows later on. They really look good in the woodland setting. Put them somewhere where you can watch them from your house or you surround them with other plants and they really do shine. Some things that pair well with Rhododendron, big leaf hostas, and also some of the conifers, some of the things with smaller needles also look really nice next to them as well and I also like ferns next to Rhododendron. They do well, the contrast and textures looks really nice. And off course, they do keep their leaves all winter even though they curl up in the winter, they still look pretty good and it is so green. You don’t any in your yard, great idea to get one. There are plenty of them for you, all the different leaves, and all the different colors.
