Fashion Designer Rachel Roy Backstage Interview

Go backstage with StyleCaster's Carol Han for an interview with fashion designer Rachel Roy at her Spring 2009 fashion show.

Carol: Welcome to your StyleCaster backstage pass. I’m Carol Han and we’re backstage at the Rachel Roy’s Spring 2009 Presentation. Rachel, the collection looks beautiful for what I can see. Can you talk to me a little bit about the colors and shapes that we’re about to see? Rachel: Yes, spring is not focused necessarily in just one shape. It's focused on the idea that to have elegance, you can also have ease at the same time. So, the woman is always the same woman. She's always put together elegance, probably a little bit of who I aspired to be and I really want to focus on a balance. So, I wanted to really push the idea that when you do have to go to your more formal events so there's ways to do it that are a little out of the box. Carol: What are the major trends that you're starting to see emerge for spring 2009? Rachel: I hate to say it, but I’m not really big on trends. I really do like to focus on the woman wearing a silhouette that works for her which is why I have a few different silhouettes every season. I think that there's a way to hit what's on trends and make it right for you and your body. Carol: And what role do accessories play in this collection? Rachel: I’m just start enjoying, just starting to make it myself and I have little beaded numbers that just kind of accent for fun. And I prefer those during the day or prefer those if you can use them at night that you use with a very casual silhouette. Carol: And if you can describe the Rachel Roy woman in one sentence, what would it be? Rachel: I would say that she's strong and she's feminine and she wears many hats and she's very busy whether she's working or taking care of her family. Wild fashion is important to her and she does love fashion, it's not the most important thing in her life by any means.
