First Date Expectations Tips

Host: Should I have expectations on my first meeting? Gloria MacDonald: Your expectations for the first meeting should be just that you are going to go meet an interesting person and find out something about this person. Men and women have very different expectations. Women are going into this thinking, “this might be the man of my dreams, this might be Prince Charming; this might be the one.” Women set themselves up for failure because their expectations are way up here and then, if it doesn’t work out they are so bumped out. The other thing is, for women, this is a date. Women, you have got to get out of that because for men very often, they haven’t met you before. This is the first time, this is strictly a meeting. Men are not in date mode, so it’s a meeting, so they might not be Mr. Prince Charming and everything else. So keep in mind women that for a man—for men this is just a meeting and women, let go of some of all those things, the romance you have around the date. This is not the place where he is going to propose marriage to you. This is just an interesting opportunity to meet a new person. So just have those expectations thinking, “Gee, I am going to have an interesting time having drinks with someone, having coffee with someone’, just fun light hearted.
