Male: Today we are at the home of the Grundy Family.
Female: There are a lot of things that we’ve done in the house but the most
important thing is to really make it what we wanted it to be when you
walk in the door.
Male: Okay, so let’s talk about this for a little bit. You know obviously is the
first thing you see when you are walking to someone’s house is kind like
you know how you welcome people in your home and what are the trouble
spots for you.
Female; The biggest one is the carpet, we have a dog and pets that’s what I worry
so he is kill the carpet. On top of the fact that is a lot of traffic in here so I
love to entertain, I love having people in the house and people are starting
to wonder and they’re asking me why I haven’t had party.
Male: Well we can definitely update the entire look at this room, we can rid the
carpet out and then lay down a laminate hardwood floor something with
the nice wood grain on it and those things are last for the dog can’t ever
destroy there scratch is staying resistant they’re really user friendly and
that would really you know instantly bright the room up. But if we are
going to do that then I say we just keep doing in this room, obviously you
know we can paint the walls and replace all the molding on all the doors.
Female: What about the front door?
Male: The front door is also something that we should be replaced.
Female: It’s the nightmare.
Male: Yeah, I think we should replace the front door. Okay we are going to with
Jimmy and start overhaul on this entire for you. Now basically it’s a new
hardwood floors, new door trim and all the doors replace in this door,
painting so this is going to be one all in composing project. So, I will say
the first thing to do is to look to the carpet so you are going down there
pretty sure we are on slab here so the best part about it those laying down
on the hardwood floor around that step the curve step have fun with that
one.
Jimmy: I will.
Male: Alright, so we’ve got under this carpet first, oh you are going to be with
this. Okay cool. We are rid on the slab there so you get tucks there about
and start to put back together.
Jimmy: Just start to cut them. So using the flat bar like this just kind to be go in try
to sliding behind it now once you get a little to this action you can take the
hook that’s in your bar stick it back there and then twist the bar instead of
crying out on the wall like that. Just twist the bar and then your frying
behind the molding. Alright, this is done and now dry wall in there.
Male 2: No. dry wall.
Jimmy: Good job.
Male: They painted for years so they’re moving on the floor.
Jimmy: We are going over concrete and we are using a moister vary underline it,
we just—the regular foam under the alignment and then it’s got this plastic
sheet adhere to the back of it and now will keep any moisture that’s under
your house from sipping it up from your concrete. Thing you got worry
about when you are doing a floating floor like this is leave room to expand
you are only have quarter inch all the way around of any year cuts because
you don’t get that room to kind of expanding contract and buckling out in
the middle. So we click them together especially if we got a little sort of J
shape tong and then a little kind of J shape group so as we put it in we
actually got to keep at an angle to get it started and then we click down
and lays flat a little hook will be together.
Travis Grundy: No mess space.
Jimmy: No glue, no mess.
Travis Grundy: Alright.
Jimmy: So to get it started this is our first rule because we so short here and we
can do this up to about of 15 foot room and you got a first three before the
pieces is lock together and then slide it to the wall so we have kind of
room to work when we are not working backwards. This is from top to top
and you just want to be careful when you are doing this that you don’t
mess up this edge. This tongs and the groves are very fragile which is why
reusing this tool right here and if you start at the wood behind there. This
block of wood we can also use the tab and seen at the back there now are
going to put it over the tong or over the grove when I’m not actually
beating on tone or the grove. When we trigger do down in the wood, push
back and then they come up.
Travis Grundy: Alright.
Jimmy: That’s it, crank and easy.
Travis Grundy: This is almost exactly like Lego you know just you match up the two sides
and then snap right together it’s pretty fun.
Jimmy: Now take this scrap this here and I cut the curve it’s way too big and we
know it’s too big but we are going to use this piece to make a template.
Travis Grundy: Okay.
Jimmy: And we are going to make a series and mark around this.
Travis Grundy: Will going to take the measurement, one and three quarters now we use
this to transfer it to a new piece so is going to really tight to fit around
here.
Jimmy: Now is a kind to make the series about around here measuring in from our
template and we get to our template now we are just going to connect the
dots and hopefully with little or a no adjustment this thing will fit. Grab
the jigsaw there and that fits pretty good not a little, little jaggy that you
left there.
Travis Grundy: Yes.
Jimmy: That will be under the trim, no problem at all.
Travis Grundy: Great.
Jimmy: Alright let’s get rolling. So you guys pick up the medallion style casing
and you may saw it a little bit easier so don’t worry about any minor cuts.
Travis Grundy: Okay.
Jimmy: Everything’s straight cuts, will pop this little blocks up in the corner and
we run molding up to the side and molding across the top and that’s it.
Male: Things are looking good inside the entry way so Jimmy and Travis are
moving outside to replace the front door.
Jimmy: So the first thing we need to do is give this barbell fresh pull out okay. The
new door is actually pre hang unit as an aluminum threshold that’s went
outwards so that you are not going to hit the door and it runs away from
the house and it will actually have a bottom suit on it so you won’t get the
interest know in your four your likely use to get. And now we are going to
put the top in first and slide the button under.
Travis Grundy: Alright.
Jimmy: Here we go. That’s look good. I’m going to trim right above this hinge and
we are going to make sure replies the dried on inside and now I want to let
you know just pop a couple of nails in through the door frame.
Travis Grundy: From this one?
Jimmy: Yup right above the hinge.
Male: The shims will keep everything plum and square.
Jimmy: Alright, good. Then into the two inside by side there, it looks good give
me one towards the top that’s it. Next thing we are going to do.
Travis Grundy: Okay.
Jimmy: Until everything insolated, we are going to use the low expansion
expanding foam feels the hole a little nice and we are going to get a little
more air tight. Don’t just spray right in the middle of the whole kind to run
the strap one side or the other so we are going to stick to the wall or stick
to the door. The foam is looking like it expanding nicely and we’re just
touching both side which is just you want that you want to expand to much
just attaching both side so while this is net enough, what we are going to
do is get this ready for this. Keep the last three pieces of trim and then
before you’re complete done.
Male: Alright, that’s it. Alright so we see we got a little better looking front door
up here.
Travis Grundy: Better looking front door up here.
Male: Alright, well good job on this and now what you are going to do is just
you know cover up this things if you have the stuff to cover up and then
finish this thing on.
Travis Grundy: Everything is brighter, you come in you walk in the door and everything’s
warm and cozy.
