Most patients are very nervous on their first appointment, and it takes a lot of courage to pick up the phone and schedule an appointment and actually think about surgery for weight loss. So we try to comfort them and their first questions are usually around, “How long is the procedure going to take,” and “Is it painful?” And those are the things that we try to clearly express that it’s usually less than an hour, and there’s very little pain postoperatively and people are back to work in about two days. We go through the entire process of what they are going to be doing before and after surgery, what type of diet they are going to be on after the surgery. They are usually on a liquid protein shake diet after the surgery for two weeks, and they really want to know all the details about when they can go back to work and what types of food they are eating after the surgery.
