Hedley Talks Reality TV Rebecca Brayton: Jacob Hoggard dropped out of the top three of the Canadian Idol competition to pursue a career with his band. Hi I'm Rebecca Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com. And today we’re speaking with Hoggard and Hedley about the reality television trend. I want to talk about Cha Ching and the song. Jacob Hoggard: The sound of money. Rebecca Brayton: The level of irony obviously is pretty high on that song, you want to just talk about that a bit. Jacob Hoggard: There is a lot of inception that was largely based around the fact that I was on a television show. So this song is a bit more about contemporary social commentary. It’s just sort of where things come from even 2004, five to six years go. Dave Rosin: Twit is a verb. Jacob Hoggard: Twit is a verb now. Things are changing and there’s nothing we can do. We can go—that’s crazy but pretty soon we’re just going to sound like those older people that are going puff, puff when young you have to email people. You know what email is kids? It’s really just kind of a social commentary as far as what people these days are willing to do for money or for fame. The new kind of mutated American dream. David Rosin: The thing about TV it’s edited and its script in some length and that’s always the tough thing is because you have to kind to take it for what it is and TV is entertainment value. So be ready to turn it off in any point. Rebecca Brayton: Did the Canadian Idol experience help you at all? Jacob Hoggard: Of course it did. It was a springboard for me. It was what started everything. It was what got the ball rolling and gave me the opportunity to actually pursue something that I've previously dreamed doing. I was definitely started as an amateur and having to kind of really instantly sort of bring your game up into it to a competent level was a lot of work and it’s still a lot of work. We are by no means professionals or veterans at this. There are so many hundreds of artists that have achieved great levels of success and people that we look up to in the music industry and strive to be like. I mean there’s still such a long way to go but it was definitely a stepping stone.
