Friday The 13th In Theaters February 13th Male Speaker: This episode of Fast Lane Daily is bright to you by Friday The 13th In Theaters February 13th Derek D: Car makers maybe suffering their worst sales climate in 25 years but some companies' high performance divisions are ordering extra shrimp cocktail. The Mercedes-Benz AMG and BMW M divisions each marked all time record sales for the year 2008. Both companies benefited from strong entries in the lower-end performance space, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and BMW's latest M3 models. AMG posted a 19 percent increase in sales over 2007 with the company moving 24,200 of its big ticket models in 2008. The US was AMG's strongest market contributing 38 percent of total sales with China and Brazil also adding triple digit sales growth numbers. BMW's M division saw a sales jump 50 percent with more than 26700 M models leaving dealerships last year. For AMG, the increase comes on the heels of a major line expansion including the company's Black Series models and new add-on equipment packages. Now Dutch Oven car magazine Auto Telegraaf says AMG will bring a new focus to fuel efficiency, adding more efficient direct-injection systems and start-stop technology. AMG officials have already declared the horsepower wars dead, bound to reduce fuel consumption 30 percent by 2012. Efforts to do that will reportedly include new diesel models, new lightweight materials and even hybrid systems. And the Honda Accord may not be a sport sedan but Honda says a new more aggressive Accord is on target for inveigling next month. Honda says it's new European Accord Type S will debut at the Geneva Motor Show ahead of a sales launch later this year. The Type S is based on the 2.2 liter i-DTEC Accord Turbo Diesel with extra power. That's 30 horses over the base model for a total of 180 and 280 pounds feet of torque at 2000 RPM. Honda says, it will elucidate next month in Geneva. And Formula 1 fans in US may soon feel like less like exiles in their own country, the US based Formula 1 team is reportedly on track for a 2010 debut on the Grand Prix starting grid. Team US F1 has reportedly headed by the brick yanked dual of UK journalist and x-Ferrari and the William's team Veteran Peter Windsor and US IndyCar Tech guru Ken Anderson. The team will be based in the heart of Nascar country at Charlotte, North Carolina where the company's reportedly negotiating for use of the new Windshear Wind Tunnel. Team Boston say USF1 will be a showcase for American technology and US born drivers, some of whom still have some feeling in their right arms. Next up a factory 600 horsepower Porsche GT2 not quite but close that's in the internet rumor mill coming up right after this it'll be coming up. Anyway the UK's PistonHead says that's exactly what Porsche intends to do with the next GT2. Insiders say an upcoming GT2 RS will be designed specifically for track days and it could be the quickest road going Porsche ever built. The GT2 RS is expected to get a boost in power to somewhere in north of 580 horses, that along with those center locking hubs and an additional weight reduction plan shaving off 440 pounds could make the RS the fastest Porsche to get around a track since the GT1. On release date price or production run but insiders say we could see the GT2 RS on the road next spring. And now for a segment we like to call. Male Speaker: Dig his car dig Derek D's car yeah. Derek D: Alright so we already talked about the Cobalt SS Turbocharged. We talked about the BMW 128i and now the third car in the list is the 2009 VW GTI, that's a turbocharged 200 horsepower car, it's been around since the 80s in America known for responsiveness and good handling, it's got affordable performance and it's the only car that can be considered a hard hatch on the list. And also the Germans know how to make seat warmers.
