Hound Dog Soloing

Transcript
And again, you’re guitar sage. Today, we’re going to be doing a little something different. I’m going to be paying “Hound Dog” which basically takes up the whole tune but specifically the solo section—we’re going to be playing a C, an F and a G. You can make this a C7, F7, and G7 if you want and you’re going to be using your basic blues scale over this. So I’m going to show you all that real quick and then I’ve got this chord progression on my looper pedal here and let that play and do a little noodling if you will and bluesy country bebop type of sound, okay. So here we go and I’m going to show the basic chord progression, goes something like this. The basic chord progression for this is C which you understand a little bit [Demonstration], C-C-F-F-C-G-F-C, okay. You repeat that chord progression over and over again, you’ll have a 12 bar blues progression. The scale that you’re going to be using for this is your—you can use pentatonic, penta meaning five, so the five scale, or you could use your basic 12—you could use your basic blues scale for this and this is how it goes, starting on the eighth fret, you’re going to put your first finger and you’re going to align your hand up just like this, so you’re going to use fingers one and four, on the next string down, one-two-three, the next string down one and three, next string down at one-tree-four, next string down one and four, next string down one and four. Now, I’m going to be using this scale, I want to also be using some other scales as well, okay. So now that you know how to do that, you can kind of—basically solo in this chord progression. So for the remainder of this video, I’m just kind of noodling, so you probably hear some mistakes in there too. You know, this is live of course, or at least pre-recorded live, so you just have fun with it. That’s the whole point, mistakes are okay. If you hear me make mistake, see if you can watch where I cover it, so that’s the—a good guitar player can cover the mistakes or good musician can cover their mistake so you may not even know that I messed up. You may think that I put that note in there intentionally, so that’s kind of the point. So here we go, I’m going start this chord progression and noodle the rest of the way out. So here we go [Demonstration].
