Fernando: Hello, my name is Fernando from Columbia. What does ACL reconstruction involve? How effective is it? Andrew: Fernando, tearing your ACL is common. Getting it fix is pretty common. It involves a surgery in what we call an outpatient basis, which means you don’t have to come into the hospital. It’s done the same day, you go home the same day. It involves putting in an arthroscope inside the knee or sometimes referred to as the scope, usually two small holes in front of the knee. And then depending on what kind of graph they used to fix your ACL, they can take some of their own tissue or they can use tissue from a donor. And that will change what your scar looks like as well. It usually takes a couple of hours to do the procedure, again depending on exactly what you use for your graph. And after you recover from anesthesia and wake up. Then you go home, usually in crutches and a brace.
