How the Menstrual Cycle Works Dr. Travis: Today, we’re talking about total body repair and how you can get your health back to normal starting right now. Before the break, we heard from Leticia and who’s worried about having two menstrual cycles during one month. Now, how can you repair that problem? Dr. Lisa: Well, actually it’s a great question because the period is a vital sign for women. And we said that before on the show and basically, a normal period averages about 28 days. You could have anything 21 to 35 is normal. So, when it varies from that, then you want to be concern. Now, every month, there’s a great dance between the hormones ovaries and the uterus, you see. There’s estrogen and progesterone and depending on the balance of that estrogen causes the uterus lining to increase. Progesterone causes it to shed that’s why it goes up and then it goes down. Basically, there are a couple of things that could cause irregular bleeding. There can be uterine polyps. There could be fibroids. There could be hormonal imbalances. Menopause can do that, also, thyroid conditions. Dr. Jim: What about stress? Does that do that? Dr. Lisa: A stress, I mean, and there are normal things like stress. Traveling can do that as well but there’s a build up of the uterine lining called hyperplasia that can do it. So, you definitely, if it’s outside to that 21 to 35 days or comes twice a month more often, then you need to talk to your doctor because they need to investigate if it’s one of those other things. Dr. Travis: So, worth getting checked out. Great question.
