Audra Lowe: This is pretty scary. Did you know that the average American adult consumes almost 150 pounds of sugar every year? That means we’re eating our own weight in empty calories every single year, 365 days. Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum is the author of Beat Sugar Addiction Now and he sort of help us understand addiction to sugar and also tell us what we can do about it and also to scare me to death because you know that in the morning sometimes I’ll have some chocolate in the morning. I love sugar. I’m addicted and good to have you back.
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: Well here’s the difference Audra.
Audra Lowe: Yeah please tell me.
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: I don’t want to make neurotic about it. I want you to enjoy your sweets as long as you’re feeling good.
Audra Lowe: Okay, alright. Now what I love about the book is that you really break it down. There are different types of sugar addicts because I was going to ask you, what new you are going to tell us that we do not already know about sugar, it’s bad. Do you break it down type 1, type 2, type 3, type 4, what is a type 1 sugar addicts.
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: Again, like I’m not kind of taking candies from babies, I want you to enjoy it but if it’s making you feel sick in type 1 are people who are exhausted, they’re basically hooked on energy drink like coffee and this other Red Bull kind of things and then it crashes them and they just need to know that they can get a different drink that will give them healthy energy. There are vitamin powders, special sugar of all things increases energy in the average of 61%.
Audra Lowe: And I know because you specifically pinpointed that people who work in television follow this category a lot. We need to keep our energy up all the time.
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: Yeah like you get up four in the morning to get ready for the shoot.
Audra Lowe: Yes, how did you know? Okay, now, how do you know what type of sugar addict you are because we’re going to go through the rest but how do you know I mean other than the descriptions?
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: That’s very simple. We have a quiz in the book you can find it on our website. There are a couple of simple questions so if you’re tired, you can get them on charts, you got type 1, if you’ve got what I call feed me now or I’ll kill you, that’s the type 2 --
Audra Lowe: I’ve been there. That’s type 2?
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: That’s type 2 where people are exhausted, they’re just handling adrenal glands during stress, their blood sugar drops and they say I’ve got to it and say -- get in an hour. And your honey says, you’ll be dead in an hour.
Audra Lowe: It’s like your feeling right?
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: Yes, its irritability and you go to marital counselors, divorce lawyers and a lot of the people in there. They’re type 2 sugar addicts.
Audra Lowe: So very quickly, what can you do if you’re type 2?
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: Adrenal support, there’s vitamin B5, vitamin C, adrenal glands, adrenal stress end is a nice simple way to support the adrenal glands, increasing water, increasing salt and turning off the TV when there are bad news.
Audra Lowe: Now type 3, you said has symptoms in there -- their sinuses and their --
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: This is what I call the happy Twinkie hunter. These are people that use sulfur growth causing sinusitis. Most people with chronic sinusitis, spastic colon, they’ve got these over growths and grows by eating sugar. So if we want to turn off that fermentation, you’ve got to stop feeding little buggers.
Audra Lowe: Okay, I like that and then these are some solutions for the type 3.
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: Probiotic, the healthy bacteria.
Audra Lowe: Got it. Type 4, these are the people that are craving the carbs and it gets a lot worst, type 4 right?
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: These are people who are depressed on that period.
Audra Lowe: Depressed, okay.
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: And there’s a difference between this irritability around the period, the PMS stuff where the sugar also drives out and those in their 40s or entering menopause and they have low estrogen but their blood test are still normal. And for those people, it’s just natural things, you cut back to sugar it will help bio identical estrogen, Remifemin is a nice product that helps gets naturally. There’s a lot you can do to balance out the system.
Audra Lowe: I’m not a sugar addict but I’m going to take this chocolate here with me and we can still -- thank you so much. If you guys want to get more information about how to curve those sugar cravings, pick up a copy of his book. It is called Beat your sugar addition now, it’s fantastic. Thank you very much.
Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum: Thanks Audra.
