How to Become a Media Correspondent On behalf of tvlesson.com. Athena Reich: Hi, my name is Athena Reich and I'm an Actress/Singer/Songwriter/Host and Teaching Artist, athenareich.com. In this series, I'm going to talk about how to be a media correspondent, what is a media correspondent? A media correspondent is somebody who you see on the TV, you hear on the radio who reports on the arts on sports, on the finance, a music scene, gay life, any kind of topic, Wall Street, something like that. Now, there's a difference between being a media correspondent and a host. A host of a reality show is different. Hosting a reality show is the person who sits in and they're talking and “In today’s show we’re going to do this …” and they don’t have to do so much research. Scripts are written out for hosts, and they're the personality, they're the person who’s there. Sometimes they have to improvise a little bit and do interviews definitely. But media correspondent is a little bit different, it's more like a journalist, but you're a personality journalist. In order to get a job, or between jobs., just do it, I mean people get hired just because of the things that they post on YouTube for example. I mean it really does happen. So create your own new show, do it weekly, do it monthly, do it daily even better and post it on YouTube. YouTube is an incredible, accessible, easy resource. You can go into YouTube and create your own channel. This is my channel and you can see I have this – you know, you can create a purple background, I have my bio here. I have a video and I have all my videos here. And I have subscribers down here. Subscribers are the people who are your fans and they subscribe every time you upload a new video they get – they find out about it. But you can build a fan based and you could also try things out, what attracts people. You could develop your craft on the internet, because you get more hits, more likely to getting featured if you do a really great show.
