Don’t Sweat It
Steve Watson: So, tell me a little about this area, what are you trying to do and what it is that you are hoping to get out of it?
Male Ellison: Well basically, you could see it’s a pretty big sized backyard but it’s over grown. So I attempted is the keyword to put on my own horseshoe pit. I got the pit in but you could see the walkway is a little crooked. Its kind of half done.
Steve Watson: Well, get a sod remover and get this top layer of sod up.
Kristen Ellison: Awesome.
Steve Watson: And then you start from the bare dirt and come back up.
Male Ellison: Sure.
Kristen Ellison: Cool.
Steve Watson: We could build a couple of cocktail tables on each pit. You knows, you have the place, put your drink.
Male Ellison: That’s alright.
Steve Watson: While you’re playing.
Male Ellison: Yes.
Steve Watson: And if you’d like to have parties, then I think what we should also do’s put some seating out here for your spectators.
Male Ellison: Yeah.
Steve Watson: And then I really think we just do score board.
Male Ellison: Okay.
Steve Watson: Because you know, every couple cold ones, you know, it’s hard to add those numbers up in your head. So, what do you guys think about that?
Kristen Ellison: I love it.
Male Ellison: Sound’s great.
Kristen Ellison: They’ll be grateful.
Steve Watson: Okay. Will till out this earth over here…
Kristen Ellison: Okay.
Steve Watson: And rake it down to that.
Kristen Ellison: To try and level at all that much.
Steve Watson: Yeah, just a little bit because you don’t want to be pitching up hill, you know. We’re just about ready to toss of you horseshoes. We’ve laid out the regulation court. Now we need a biggest part for the benches.
You know, nobody here is the perfect horseshoe thrower.
Steve Watson: If hit in the head with said horseshoe can some considerable damage could incur.
Male Ellison: Probably yes.
Steve Watson: Thus, we want to keep your sitting area away from the horseshoe court.
Male Ellison: Okay.
Steve Watson: I want to go and take a back a seven feet.
Male Ellison: It should be safe.
Carey Evans: Sounds good.
Steve Watson: I want to put a mark there.
Carey Evans: Center.
Male Ellison: Yes.
Steve Watson: Start digging some hole
Carey Evans: So, fourteen is where the string is and eighteen is and 18 is where our cut should be.
Male Ellison: Okay.
Carey Evans: So now we can go ahead and take down our string.
Male Ellison: Okay.
Carey Evans: We have our saw, our circular saw right here cordless circ and we’re going to cut this off through…
Male Ellison: Okay.
Carey Evans: … and start assembling your bench.
Male Ellison: Okay.
Carey Evans: These will come across and sandwich, we’ll use a framing nailer.
Male Ellison: I see. Okay.
Carey Evans: We’ll sandwich this together.
Male Ellison: Okay.
Carey Evans: And then we’ll also run a one by six along this front and back.
Male Ellison: And back all the way down here.
Carey Evans: Exactly.
Male Ellison: Okay.
Carey Evans: We’ll need to put some braces in the center for the supports.
Male Ellison: Okay.
Carey Evans: And then the framing itself is a one by six plinking or down deck in that’ll come down.
Male Ellison: Okay.
Carey Evans: So we have three boards.
Male Ellison: Three boards across.
Carey Evans: That’ll be across.
Male Ellison: Okay good.
Kristen Ellison: I bet that everybody is going to expect two squares probably I’m saying in a couple of sticks and that’s it. So I think people are going to be blown away. And I’m going to be really proud of it.
Steve Watson: Okay guys, so that’s obvious you see out here looks a little bit different.
Male Ellison: That’s great.
Steve Watson: You and Carey came out. You build to this roundtable tops.
Male Ellison: Yes we did.
Steve Watson: You build that big bench over there. So we have the viewing area every time you want to come out here and some friends over.
Male Ellison: That’s right.
Steve Watson: To use the new horseshoe court…
Male Ellison: [Laughs]
Steve Watson: That Kristen and I built. And you know, that’s different in the pit and the court. This is the official court, to me it’s kind of intimidating. [Carey and Male Ellison laughing] I’m looking it’s like, it’s you know— whenever someone says “You want to come to our place and horseshoe”…
Male Ellison: Are you serious?
Steve Watson: I do expect a couple [Laughs] holes in the ground…
Male Ellison: Yeah.
Steve Watson: And some sticks. So, that’s a serious court right there.
Male Ellison: It is.
Steve Watson: And it looks great. And guys, great job.
