Low-High Backhands There is one drill we've all seen over and over again. One player feeds to another at the net who hits alternating volleys and overhead smashes. The variation for this video raises that old standby exercise to another level. Instead of alternating volleys and regular overheads, try alternating volleys and backhand overheads. You see the backhand overhead is a very difficult shot that is seldom practiced. It's one shot that when executed properly and win points and increase self-confidence tremendously. But when executed poorly, it's a good way to lose confidence and the momentum needed to succeed. To create a game, have a third player or the coach introduce the volley and then a love over the backhand side of one of the players. The point starts when the backhand overhead is hit successfully into the court. One additional rule to consider is that since the backhand overhead is such a tough shot, allow the person who is going to hit it to reject the feed, if it is just too difficult. Since this is a fairly tough drill, just play first to reach seven points and then switch roles.
