How to make the Hit By A Car Special Effect

This shows 2 methods for faking a person being hit by a car. One uses Adobe Photoshop and editing software, requiring time & effort to add realistic detail. The other method uses camera angles to imply the collision.

This time on Tips and Tricks, I am going to show you how to do a simple effect using some simple camera tricks showing you how to get hit by a car. First, grab a tripod and get two separate shots from the exact same viewpoint. One of the big vicious semi truck driving to the frame and one of the subject’s reaction to being decimated by a semi. Next, we grab the last frame of our reaction clip and cut out the subject in PhotoShop. We overlaid the cutout version on top of our semi shot then we added a wipe transition between our last frame of the original reaction clip and our new version of the semi clip with the cutout of our subject. Since we film both clips from the same point of view, this blended the two trucks together so that they look like one solid shot. Once again, without the wipe and overlaid, our shot looked like this. With the overlay and wipe, it looks like this. Using key frames, we placed our subject to the left of the semi. Over the course of the next four frames, we moved the subject up and over until they were out of the shot entirely. This gives the effect that our subject is being pushed out of the frame. Our last step is to add fully. Knowing how to use special effects is one thing. Camera trick is another. This time, we are going to take a look at how you get hit by a car. By lining up our subject to stand ten feet in front of our vehicle, we compressed the perspective of the viewer. The cell here again, is the additional folly or truck with a break and the Oscar award winning acting of our subject. The main trick behind this version is to properly line up the camera to hide how far away the subject is from the car which again compresses the perspective and looks very realistic.
