How to Make Wood Block Art Part 1
In this next project, we’re going to be using hammer and nails and some scraps of wood that you might find, maybe in your dad’s workshop or at the neighbor’s next store. We’re going to be using wires, nails, a hammer. You can use yarn if you’d like and you can even incorporate beads into your design.
Basically, we just start with a block of wood. You probably need to have an idea on mind of what you’d like to do and I was thinking that I was going to do some sort of a circular design so I have this big roll of tape here that’s going to make a nice, double circle for me. And what I’m going to do is I’m going to hammer nails and all the way around both circles.
Trying to space them relatively evenly and you’re not going to nail them all the way through because you want to be able to wrap the colored wires around them.
The wires, if you’re not able to purchase them and they’re not very expensive at all; they’re called twisty wires. If you have old wires hanging around the house particularly telephone cords, if you slice off the plastic covering carefully, inside you will find a whole lot of different colored wires that you can work with.
It takes some time to peel off the coating and you’ll probably need somebody who knows how to use a knife because you actually have to cut it lengthwise to expose the colored wires underneath but they are fun to use for wrapping.
If you don’t have wires, you can certainly use yarn. And your design stone have to be as geometric as say this one or the one I’m going to work on. You can just out nails in, wherever you want and string wires across to make different lines of different colors. You could do it with yarn. You can add beads to it and my last nail in there.
And I’m going to go ahead and start working on this and I’m thinking that maybe I’m going to do something with beads and wrapping the wire on top of the beads in the center part. We’ll see it’s going to be an experiment. And you’ll notice I’m just twisting around the nail. When I get to the top of this one, then I’m going to go up down to the bottom of this one.
Now I’m going to do the opposite so we’ll add more yellow beads on here and quick. And this time, we’re going to do the yellow wire. And there we go, we’ve got little sunburst thing going on here and I just think maybe I need something on either in the corners. I’ve just want to finish it off with something in the corners.
There’s an easy way to make little curly, cute designs, just get a pencil and then you just wrap it up around the pencil like so. Pull it off and there you have like a spiral. Now, this little twisties here, because I want them smaller than the pencil, the diameter of the pencil, I’m just doing them by hand and not wrapping them around the pencil.
So, there we have it a design made out of wire, nails, beads and a piece of wood. Enjoy.
