Fast Lane Tennis Shot Type #6 Mixing it Up We have now reached the final major area of shots; we will cover in this program on the intermediate and above forehand. I meant mixing it up because that is exactly what we are trying to do to our opponents. Mix them up. Volume number one of Fast Lane Tennis is called drops, dinks, and angles, and it emphasizes the importance of back-spin, the control spin of tennis. In a moment you will see Kalindy mixing in a wide variety of shots from drop shots to drives with both top-spin and chips with back-spin. As you watch please keep in mind that when we filmed this sequence she just turned 11-years-old and had been playing tennis just under a-year-and-a-half. I mentioned this point only to emphasize that if a new player starts with the right foundation good things will inevitably follow. Take another look. First, let us look at Kolindy hitting a variety of shots based on Mike calling out drive, chip, drop or lob. You will notice that the basics of that first program drops, dinks, and angles are still being maintained. Ready position, split step, active use of the non-racquet hand and other fundamentals are in place. Now in a game situation watch how she is capable of moving her opponent around. Of course it should come as no surprise that she is having most of the fun. Top-spin drives, chips, drop-shots and lobs all become a source of creativity and enjoyment.
