Build a total program by forming rebounding strategies for your players.

(Music playing) I think if you are trying to build a total program, you can do creative things on the foul line. One of the things that we have always done is taking our smaller players, our guards and our forwards and we fill the two second spots here when we are shooting an offensive free throw. We have taken our big man and we put him all the way back. We do this for a couple of reason. First of all, you obviously have more smaller players on the team than you do big man. Most coaches are short of big men. They act to play a lot of minutes and they have to run the total floor. What we do is give our big men a chance to rest. The other thing we do is we work it into our pressing segment which we are going to continue and show you in another film, probably the continual series film. But right now, we are going to talk about the second spot rebounding. I could give you stories and stories of how individuals in basketball, junior college basketball, high school basketball, this is one mini mini ball game on my team. But what I want to try to do is to show you and actually implement some of the situations that you might see. First of all, we have young man here that is rather shorty but on a guard standard and we have someone here who is an average size forward. If we are in a pressing situation, we would probably have another guard in this spot right here. So what we have is our two guards and our forward up front, because what we want to do if we miss it, we want to get the ball back and we put it in. if we make the free throw, we want to turn this into a quick on the ball press wing one two, one one press. We got a big man back, in this case, our forward man would probably be here moving back and this maybe our guard moving up. Now, point being this, you are not adjusting personnel, they are uptight, they know, they understand, they keep the pressure on what will be the offense, if the basket goes in and turns into the defensive end. Let us talk about how we are going to score. We got our two men and here is one unique thing we do. We take them and we set them as far away as we can to the first spot. They are going to be as far away from this guy here. I turn my back on you for a second for this reason, if I am a postman and normally the postman is here, until, screening him on. Even the smallest he is, if he takes a giant step towards the doted line for the rebound, I have to take one or two giant steps to get there. By that time, I am going to lose contact with the ball and I am not going to be able to rebound as well as if he were in next to me and we do our usual and he step and I pin him here. Then we could both go for the rebound. This time I am going to make this post make a decision. If he is going to screen him out like the coach tells him, he is either going to take a giant step which will not allow him to rebound or two large steps to try to get there. In either case, he is not going to be ready for that ball to come off. Now let us see what happens and let us talk about the positive things of this. Let us move over to this side. Normally, while I am here, if this was our center, we would be in and would be pushing and would be shoveling and try to get our arms, we step in, my guy bumps on the road, boom, foul trouble. Not only did he get a foul, he got to run the length to the floor. We put him on half court to free him from that situation, from early fouls. Second thing in mainly, if this guy sees him way over there, he is wondering, what is he doing? Somebody has to be pushing me here or I do not know what to do. So when he makes the long step, and puts him in a situation not knowing what to do. Do I go all the way, do I stay her, in reality, he has the best rebounding spot specially if we have our kid straight and they are shooting at the front of the ram, because if the ball comes out short, it is going to bounce 95 out of a hundred times from here to here in this area. If it comes out long because it is a little bit long and hit a heel of the rim, it is going to come to the same place. As coaches, you can do your own charity, you can shoot it up there with normal arch hit those spot and you can see who has the best chance of rebounding. Secondly, these two guys will automatically screen the second man off. So, they have taken this man out, they have taken this man out because of the distance and they have established themselves as they have been in the best rebounding position. They have done it all now. Here is for our stunts. We talked about the position of this two, we are going to add our third man right now and then we are going to talk about free throw stunts.
