Transcript
Hi, I'm Jimmy Brown and today I’m going to show you how to play a classic Beatles song, Here Comes the Sun. it is written by George Harrison and featured on the band’s album Abby Road. First thing I'm going to do is play through the whole song and sing it because we’ll put everything in context for you. And as you’ll see, it’s actually one of those songs that are a little easier to play when you sing it because the guitar part kind of follows the vocal melody. So, here we go. I’ll play it through and then I’ll break it down section by section, slow things down for you and give you some pointers. [Singing] Okay, first thing, guitar is capod at the 7th fret which is pretty high. The song is played, Harrison plays the song as if it were in D using the chords D, G, A7, and E7. But it sounds in the key of A because of the capo. The capo transposes everything up a perfect fit. So, we’ll refer to this as if they were played down here without the capo. So I'm going to call this the D chord and it’s a G string 2nd fret with the index finger, B string 3rd fret with the ring finger, and high E string 2nd fret with the middle finger. Okay, this introduction, what Harrison is doing is playing, weaving the melody into the chord. Okay, it’s basically, it’s a D chord and then Dsus2 which is arrived at by removing the middle finger. So you just have an open D string, A string 2nd fret, D string 3rd fret, and you open high E, that’s Dsus2. Put the middle finger back down and you get a D. and instead of just strumming the chord, just kind of picking it. I call this picky strummy style.
