Alright guys, I get another Taylor Swift joint while I’m away. This is Our Song by Taylor Swift. Tuning on standard. Don’t mind my capo on the first fret. That’s because my guitar has stepped down… so to get on standard tuning, you just put a capo on the first fret. So just keep your guitars in standard tuning. If your guitars has have stepped down, you can put a capo on the first fret.
Alright, there are four chords to this song. And the way I’m going to teach you, there’s a D… there’s an E minor. So I’m just going to walk with you really quick on the tab you’ll see a picture, it’s say D, E minor, G and A. It has a bunch of numbers down it, vertically. All these are, is actually to the left, you can see, E, A, D, G, B, E. So it’s pretty much just a picture of your guitar like this. So if the top one says two, it means you should have something here on the second fret. Next number down says three, which is this string third fret, two, open, open, open. That’s what that means. Alright, so the chords are D… that’s middle finger here, ring finger here, pointer finger here. Alright so D… you have E minor, just pointer finger here on the second string, middle finger here, so… you have a G, middle finger here, pointer finger here, ring here, pinky here, so that’s G… and then A, which you have whichever way you want to do it, you can play it like this… play like this… play like this… You just want to make sure you have the second fret covered on the D, G and B strings. So… anyway you want to play it.
Alright so the chord progression in the chorus is, “I was riding shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car”, it goes D to E minor, to G to A. Sounds like… alright. That’s the strum pattern I use the whole song so let’s see if I can slow it down, ok… let’s see… ok. So down, down, down, down, and then I switch to E minor and catch it with an up so… down, down, down, down, up, up, down, down, up, down, up, down, down, down, down, up, I switch to the A, so… same as before… down, down, down, down, switch to up, up, down, up, down, up, down, down, down, down, up, up, down, up, down, up, down, up. So down, down, down, down, switch to up, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, switch to G, down, down, down, switch to A, up, up, down, up, down, up, down, up. Alright, that’ pretty much the whole of the intro. So it goes D to E minor to G to A. D to E minor to G to A. It does that four times so it goes D, E minor, G and A, four times. Twice in the intro, four once the first verse starts.
The chorus is “Our song is the slamming screen door. Sneaking out late, tapping on your window. When you’re on the phone and you talk real slow. 'Cause it's late and your mama don't know”, alright so that’s D… E minor… A… actually, yeah alright, it’s also, the chorus is D, E minor, G, A, once, twice, three, yeah three times. And then when it says, “And when I got home, 'fore I said amen”, that’s E minor… “And when I got home” A, “'fore I said amen”, E minor, “Asking God” is D, and it’s played twice down for D, and then “If He could play it again”, it’s G… and then it gets back into the verse again. Into the chorus again, then there’s one more, she’s going to hold that da da da da thing. It’s D, E minor, G, A.
The bridge, “I've heard every album, listened to the radio, waited for something to come along that was as good as our song”, that’s E minor. “I've heard every album, listened to the radio”, and then “Waited for something”, that’s D… “For something”, A, “To come along that was as good as our song”, it’s G. So it’s “I've heard every album”, E minor, “listened to the radio”, G, “Waited”, I would still like three down strums there like, “Waited”, two, A, “For something to come along”, E minor. Let it ring, “That was as good as our song”. It goes back into the chorus again.
The very end, “I was riding shotgun”, D, “With my hair undone”, E minor, “In the front seat of his car”, G to A, D, “I grabbed a pen and an old napkin”, E minor, “And I wrote down our song”. So the last one is played “And I”, play it once, let it ring and then “wrote down our song”. And then that’s it, you can strum the D, E minor, G, A if you want so good luck on this guys. See you.
