Chris Duke: A common request we get from viewers, they submit their ideas to the show is how to install after market seat covers on a muscle car such as a Camaro or a Mustang. We went to Katzkin Leather Interiors in Los Angeles to pick a set of after market seat covers for a Mustang. So that today on Motorz, we can show you how to install a set of their leather seat covers on a 2008 Ford Mustang GT.
Now, replacing the stock seat cover is actually easier than you think, it could be done in about a day with the help of a buddy. The benefit to after market seat covers is that you can customize your seat pattern, the style, the color however you want for just about the same price as stock leather seats from the factory. The only real difficult thing about this installation is, it requires a lot of elbow grease. Now enough happened let's check out what we need to install our new skins.
For this installation, you're going to need some trimmer, movable tools as well as the small allen wrench, some needle nose pliers, some regular pliers, pair of dikes, couple of standard screwdrivers, Phillips and a flat, a box knife or a X-Acto blade, a ratchet, a 15 millimeter deep socket, a 13 millimeter deep, a 10 millimeter socket, an extension, and also an eight millimeter for your battery terminal, so also T 15 torx bit, some hard clips and some hard clip pliers, some work gloves and some spray adhesive, possibly some silicon spray for the head rest.
Now, bunch of these things like these guys come in a kit that you can get directly from Katzkin well along with the whole bunch of hard clips. Now,we'll get start with the installation after this break.

Chris Duke: Now, the first thing you want to do is, you want to disconnect the negative battery terminal on your vehicle. And the reason why you want to do this, it's because down here on the bottom of your seats, you've got some air bag sensors, you don't want to get those things all confused when you hook everything back up later.
Now, of course, before you disconnect your battery terminal if you got power seats, you want to make sure that you move your seats into position first to get access to those bolts that are holding it down. So do that first and then disconnect the battery.
To remove the seats, you're going to need a 15 millimeter deep socket for the two bolts in the rear, and a 13 millimeter for the ones up front. Now, you want to move your seat all the way forward, and you'll know that you have got these black plastic covers, I knew this is kind of push down and push on a back and ship pop right off, revealing the 15 millimeter bolt.
Now, a 13 millimeter socket will work, but it actually turns out if you got a 13 millimeter deep socket, it can work a whole lot better. Once you've got your four seat bolts removed, you can slowly tilt the seat back to reveal this two wiring harnesses, there is a tab on the back of this gray and black, when you press that, it will push and that comes off like that, on the yellow one, there is a tab on the side and that pops out just like that, once you've got those removed, you can pull your seat out. After removing the driver side seat, remove the same four bolts from the passenger seats, pop that seat out too.

Chris Duke: Now, the two front seats removed, got to attack the back seat now Ford couldn't have made this easier, I'm gonna lift this up already popped it off, basically there is some black tabs on here, you just got to press those forward their lock in right there. If you want need sides, you just press those, this thing pops up bearing your seats out isn't that crazy. The next thing you want to do, stick a 13 millimeter deep socket and you got three bolts, a center one, one on the left side, one over there on the right side, once you removed those, you can pull your seat forward, coming right off.
Well, we've got all our seats removed from our Mustang, we want to go ahead passenger side so we can show you the difference between the Katzkin leather versus the stock cloth, and what we went with is a black leather for the outside and a pure tuscany that's perforated for the inside as well as a sliver stitching that is all way around it. Now let's get to the other seats.
Start the driver's seat by lifting up the headrest by pushing this button here on the inside. You can get to a point where it's not going to go any further, just grab an allen wrench, put in this hole right here on the side, it's a little tiny hole. Once you push that in, you should be all to get this all the way now. On the back of the driver seat is the lever you want to pop this handle off so grab up a plastic remover tool, pop that off just like that. Right below that, it is a torx T15 screw, so grab that and screw it out. Once you've got that off, it should be able to pop this piece off right there.
Next, flip the seat up on its side, because next thing we want to do is, we want to remove all these plastic pieces, get this larger plastic panel off and that allows to get the cloth out. To get the seat back lever off there is cotter pin that goes around there, so what do you want to do, once its on there, it's kind of get in there from the side with a flat blade screwdriver, pop that out, that will easily come right out.
Now, this is in the case for the passenger side, but on the driver's side you've got a couple of electrical connections here, you want to remove those. After removal of the cloth and of course the new leather we had to recommend you wear gloves, there's just a lot of sharp metal underneath the seats. Now with the stock you're going to encounter all these tree clips, you just pop them off pretty easily, now whether is just to hung on with these plastic clips around the metal or around the seat.
They are also going to get to a point here with these hard clips are tying down the upholstery to these middle bars going across, you need to just take some dikes and cut them off. The Ford went ahead did something really annoying on the side here, they pinched the stock fabric in between this metal bracket here, so grab a 15 millimeter deep socket and back off these two bolts, just enough to be able to uphold this material on out pinched in there and that's on both the passenger and the driver side.
Look at that, more hard clips. When you get to these headrest post at the top, what you want to do is go underneath pinch them with a pair of pliers, so that you can then push them up to the material.
