How to Save By Buying Used Audra Lowe: —and getting pre-on stuff doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re buying junk. Jeanette Fabini shows us how to save some big bucks with used goods in today’s Better Ways to Save. Jeanette Fabini: Well, we all know that new cars depreciate as soon as you drive them off the lot. So, buying the right used car might save you thousands of dollars. The same will applies for almost everything else from computers, to office furniture to designer clothes. So, the first rule of buying used is to do your homework to find out exactly what you want to buy and what it cost new. Then learn the lingo, a refurbished product isn’t always used. It could have been sent back because someone didn’t like it after they opened the box. A reconditioned item has been used and fixed up. Now both products should come with a warranty and sometimes a warranty doesn’t comet from the manufacturer. It comes from the person who repaired the item and other benefits of buying used, you might be able to barter and get an even lower price. If you buy online or from a yard sale, you might not have to pay sales tax. Some of our favorite things to buy used include furniture, baby clothes, designer accessories and college text books. You can shop regularly scheduled county and city auctions to find used office furniture, filing cabinets and much more. Finally, there are some things that might not be a good deal used. Watch out for items that need expensive battery replacement like MP3 players and cordless drills. Sometimes, the battery cost almost as much as buying a whole new item. Audra Lowe: Thanks, Jeanette and if you guys want to check out even more savings on top of that you can head to bettertv.com, click on the gad coupons button. There, you’re going to find coupons on everything, from groceries to household goods. So, have fun.
