How to Uninstall Programs in Windows Vista

Many people like to download programs and try them out on their PC's. If you don't use a program, however, it's just taking up space on your hard drive. Here's a quick and easy way to remove programs you don't want or use in Windows Vista.

Hi, this is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder and welcome to your butterscotch.com tutorial on how to uninstall programs from Windows. Now, we’re here in Windows Vista. Sometimes you install programs, you don’t use them, they’re just taking up disk space. Better just to remove them, but removing them in Windows Vista is just a little bit different from all previous versions of Windows. So we’re going to click on start, click on control panel. In the previous versions of Windows, you would be used to looking for add/remove programs option up here. In the Windows Vista, it’s not there. It’s under programs and features. So we’ll click on that. Now when it opens up to uninstall programs, select it from the list. So highlight Skype, click uninstall, it’s asking you if you’re sure you want to uninstall it, click yes and the program will go through its basic uninstall process. So you’re going to allow it, say yes, now it’s going through its uninstall process. Don’t be confused when it’s saying that it’s configuring the program. The install and uninstall are often part of the same package so it may say configuring when really it’s configuring its uninstall. Going through cleaning up the last remnants of the program, and now the program is gone. We can just click here, close that out, and that’s all there is to it.
