Apple sues HTC to stop android, the daily show leaves Hulu and TiVo announces new DVRs.
It’s Wednesday, March 3rd, I’m Mark Licea filling in for Natali Del Conte this week, it’s time to
get loaded.
Last night TiVo announce their series 4 DVR’s the Premiere and the Premiere XL. Our executive
editor John Falcon was there, take a look.
John: these are TiVo’s fourth generation products, their cable car DVRs that include
incorporate a lot of web video into the TV interface as well. So the key advantage here is HT
interface and unified search. The TiVo already had a some very robot search functions but with
series for Premiere, they’re really trying to kick it up and make sure when you search for
program it comes up whether it’s in your upcoming program listings or available on Amazon,
Netflix, Youtube or Blockbuster. It already has RAPSODI Pandora is coming later this year.
Like past TiVo’s the Premiere box will also double as network media streaming devices as well.
Now these TiVos, previous ones are Ethernet only. TiVo will be selling a wireless USB Wi-Fi
down you all to get along with them separately.
Another cool accessory is the Cordi Remote it’s a Bluetooth remote, you slide it open just like a
smart phone and you can type on it do your search in there instead of using a clumsier on screen
keyboard interface. Right now looks like TiVo is sticking with its fee structures so in addition to
that upfront 300 dollars for the 45 hour Premiere 500 dollars for the TH check certified 150 hour
Premiere XL. You’ll also going have to pay a monthly, yearly, or lifetime fee on top of those
prices.
Mark: The smart phone were just got a whole lot hotter, Apple has filed sue against HTC Baker
many popular android phones. The sue was filed in the US International Trade Commission in
the US District Court in Delaware in an alleges that HTC violated 20 of Apples patents. Early
announces that the sue however points Apple’s legal guns at Google if I’ll be it through HTC.
Most of the patents still with the software that HTC hardware runs namely Google’s android
operating system. With the HTC sued, Apple hopes to stop shipments of HTC phones that
violated patents in the US.
Viacom and Hulu have announced they are parting ways, that means that starting next week the
daily show with John Stewart and the Colbert report will be leading the popular streaming
service. Hulu was surprisingly candid in the blogs stating that the party is got close to a deal but
no cigar. The comedy central shows will wildly watch then no many Hulu fans are disappointed.
Viacom notes that the shows will still be available online through the shows website. There
speculation that Viacom may be looking for a better deal elsewhere. We can only guess that
means either Youtube or TV.com which like CNET is CBS home.
Netflix has a question for you “how would you like to watch instantly movies and TV episodes
on your iPhone through Wi-Fi? Well the company has not yet announced any new plans with
regards to the iPhone it is pretty telling that Netflix is serving its customers about iPhone interest
as well as we can tell the consensus so far is yes we definitely want an Apple.
TomTom has updated their iPhone navigation app that brings it closer to the high end GPS units.
Version 1.3 currently in the App store review process but when it is released it will enable real
time traffic reports and Google powered search. The search function will also offer enhanced
point of interest search. If you thought that 3D rage has died down, think again, Acer has
released 2 new projectors that are 3D ready. The H5360 and the X1261 are 16x9 DLP projectors.
H5360 will cost $699 and supports 720P, the X1261 costs $579 at XGA resolutions. Both units
support HTMI svideo and support NVDIAs 3D vision technology.
ASUS has joined the ranks of Amazon, Sony and Barnes and Noble to release its own eReader,
the DR 900 has a 9 inch screen at 1024 by 768 using ePaper display technology. It includes 4 of
Gigabytes storage and an SD card slot. The unit will support Wi-Fi included in the box as well as
an option for 3G. It supports PDF, ePub, HTML and MP3s.
Those were your headlines for today I will see you tomorrow with more. I’m Mark Licea with
CNET TV and you’ve just been loaded.
