Importance of Education for Children in Quake-Stricken West Sumatra Narrator: More than 600 people have died and more than 300 are reported missing after last week’s devastating earthquake in Sumatra. UNICEF is rushing emergency supplies to the scene and one of its biggest priorities is to make sure that children’s routines get back to normal as soon as possible. Angela Kearny: Here I am at the kindergarten that was really destroyed or partly destroyed in the recent earthquake. And the most important thing is to get this kindergarten functioning again. Luckily, they were no children here at that time but the children are coming back. They are playing in the playground. They're not even taking what's around, least exposed for the -- They’re just living it. But we have to do in UNICEF is we must get those kindergarten functioning as we must get schools going back because the children, the best way of healing is for them to go back to school, to go back to kindergarten and to have a normal life again. Narrator: That was UNICEF Representative in Indonesia, Angela Kearny. For more information visit UNICEF.org, Unite for Children.
