Increase Performance with TuneUp Utilities

TuneUp Utilities 2009 keeps your Windows-based PC running smoothly, can improve start-up time and just generally keeps things in order. And we all know that an organized computer is a happy computer.

Hi! This is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder, with your butterscotch .com tutorial on increasing the performance on your PC, utilizing TuneUp Utilities 2009. Now, this is a comprehensive program that covers a lot of features and windows so it’s mostly going to be an overview of the various tabs. Now, on the Increase Performance tab, one of those first things is a drive defragmenter. And what this does is go through and defragment your hard drive, gets all your files lined up and that makes your hard drive faster, it makes your file access faster. You can see how quickly it scans a drive and you will find it in my drive’s defragmenter. Another option is a memory optimizer that helps you free up memory that sometimes gets trapped when programs are opened and closed. It also includes a registry defragmenter and what this does is it goes through the registry and it compacts it, makes it smaller and that makes the registry more efficient. So, it takes the spaces and eliminates them so that your registry is much more effective. There’s a speed optimizer which is a really cool feature because it goes through and analyzes your PC based on a few questions that you answer like the speed of your internet connection, what are you using it to access a network and so on and so forth. And then it gives you recommendations or you can accept all of the recommendations and say optimize all or you can click on the recommendations and see what they are and to see if there’s some that you want to accept and there’s some that you don’t. It’s totally up to you and there are just recommendations. And then lastly is the Startup manager. And what this does is it shows you all of the programs that load when windows starts. And many times you have programs loading that you are aware of and what they do is they take up memory so you can go through and look at the list of things that’s stared up in this computer. You can go through and you can disable, turn things off and on and that helps you free up memory. So, all of these things defragmenting the hard drive, optimizing the memory, defragmenting the registry, using the optimizer and cleaning up your start up, options help to make your PC run better and with better performance. And that’s all there is to it.
